Hi! My name is Jessica Mayfield-Ashwood, a clinically licensed social worker with 6 years of practice in the mental health field. I received my MSW degree from The University of Michigan and am a proud native of Detroit, Mi. I service children as young as 9yrs old and adults of all ages utilizing a variety of specialties tailored to the needs of my client.
A first session will be us getting to know each other, setting goals, and assessing needs. Afterwards, sessions will be more in depth to target goals and explore mental and behavioral concerns. I use a combination of modalities that best fits the client at the time.
My greatest strength as a provider is not only having the clinical knowledge of what client's experience but personal knowledge. I am able to relate to clients in various ways while combining my education and expertise to help clients identify and practice skills.
My approach to therapy is first and foremost person-centered. Each person on my caseload, whether it be a child, adolescent, teen, or adult, is given respect and are involved in the therapeutic process of achieving goals they set for themselves. I am particularly passionate about serving youth and young adults who are impacted by anxiety, depression, trauma, anger, and low self-esteem.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is a way to explore how our thoughts, feelings, and actions interact with each other. Many clients find this approach helpful because it reshapes perception of certain thoughts and feelings which in turn change our behaviors to be more positive.
Strength-Based
As a social worker, I love to include YOU first and focus on your strengths rather than deficits. We will build coping skills tailored to things you're naturally good at or familiar with.
Trauma Informed Care
I have vast experience with trauma work and how trauma impacts not only our mind but our body. If there is a history of trauma, we will explore it with care and at a pace appropriate for you.

I have really enjoyed my time with Jessica. She listens when I need to discuss something important, and pushes me toward my goals when I don't have anything on my mind at the time.

Such a calming presence, and she's very easy to talk to. She listens well and circles back to things that I've said and helps me draw needed connections to my statements and feelings.

Jessica is very easy to talk to, and I felt very comfortable opening up to her. It's been a minute since I've been in therapy because I couldn't connect with my previous therapist. Looking forward to future sessions with her.
