Hello, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) , born and raised in Michigan. I completed my Masters degree at Oakland University combined with a post graduate Certification as a Complimentary Medicine Wellness Counselor. I have 20 years of professional experience assisting individuals with the struggles created by anxiety, depression and trauma. I believe that each person is unique, and so, my approach is person centered and I have studied to provide the benefit of a combination of traditional therapy, and complementary techniques to give my clients alternative options for the growth and healing they desire.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Our first session is " getting to know you". By filling out the forms before our first meeting (thank you for that by the way) I already know a little about you, and want to be able to create the best plan with you to accomplish your goals for therapy. We will spend a minute or two introducing ourselves, and then go right into talking about the changes and challenges you are experiencing and what you want to accomplish during our sessions together. We will wrap up and them schedule our next appointment to signal we are at the end of our session. The business part of our session is quick and only takes a few minutes , then the rest of our session is for you. This part might sound overwhelming when your reading it but it only takes a few minutes ; Either at the beginning or the end of our session we will cover the business part that I am professionally required to do; I will cover a quick orientation of what to expect moving forward ; our sessions will be 53 to 55 minutes either weekly or every other week, what treatment planning is and the reviews to measure your progress; discharge planning and transitioning to discharge when you feel that you have accomplished your goals. We will review confidentially, resources for understanding your rights as a client and consent to treatment. I will encourage you to gain an understanding of your insurance coverage by calling them and double checking your coverage, co pays and deductible. And because we are doing a telehealth visit, I will give you a quick reminder to maintain your privacy by choosing a place that you will not be overheard during our session.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I feel that the most important thing I can do is to be a good listener. I strive to build a judgment free zone that is a safe place for you to talk about what's troubling you, and to give you a place to express your worries, thoughts, and beliefs. I provide a friendly , open atmosphere where I encourage people to just be themselves. I believe in unconditional positive regard, and I have spent many years developing skills and tools to provide the best services to meet the unique needs of each individual I work with. I want to meet you where you are, and give you the benefit of my education, experience and skills to help you reach your goals.
