Hi, my name is Rosaura, but please call me Rose. Do you ever feel like your thoughts are "too much"? Or maybe you're having certain negative thoughts that interrupt your daily life, relationships, and even work? I can help you understand these thoughts to be able to manage them and continue to live your life. I help people who are suffering from anxiety and depression by teaching them and inviting them to understand where these thoughts are coming from and why they are happening. I like to use cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness to enhance awareness and increase mindfulness in our day-to-day life. You don't have to do this alone, you're already taking the first step in this journey, meeting with a therapist and working together to overcome these difficult challenges and obstacles is something we can tackle together.
In our first session, like many other therapists, we will do a psychosocial assessment and that is to obtain a history and go further in depth as to what the issues are and how they're affecting you. This first session allows me to visualize the problem with you and lets me hear it from your perspective. During this first session we will also review rights and responsibilities in therapy as it is a good way to test out if we will be compatible working together.
I am authentic in our work together and genuinely look forward to our sessions. I aim to be genuine, straightforward, and real. I don't shy away from difficult conversations and I'm honest with my clients. I find that being a real person in therapy allows clients to feel comfortable and validated. I also rely on my clinical skills and years providing therapy to ensure that we stay on track as far as your goals. Sessions can sometimes be light and solution focused and sometimes they can be deep and engaging which can bring up difficult emotions; this is when being a real person is beneficial for my clients as it helps to ensure they're heard and validated.
I enjoy using ACT for those situations where we cannot change certain things either about ourselves or others. ACT allows us to feel and accept what is instead of wishing for what isn't as holding onto the past is not healthy or helpful for moving on
CBT is a staple and the foundation of my approach to therapy; it focuses on how we view the situation, ourselves, and those around us and how our view can be either distorted, accurate, or negative. I love exploring with clients their viewpoints and perspectives and challenging them, if needed, to see other possibilities that will allow them to decrease negativity and stress and allowing them to be more positive and free.
The Gottman method is my go-to method for couples. I utilize the Gottman Checkup tool as well as other questionnaires to ensure fidelity to the method. Couples work can be challenging but I find the Gottman method does a really great job by allowing each partner to be heard and share as well as ensuring couples learn the foundations to a solid and strong relationship so when we discuss the difficult and challenging parts of the relationship, the foundation is already there and allows for conversation to flow.
I am eclectic in the sense that no one method/intervention works on everyone. I always ask for feedback and modify my interventions as needed for each individual. I strongly believe we're all unique and anything can be easily adapted to work for everyone.
Mindfulness is what allows us to connect to our body, mind, and to the present. I use and encourage mindfulness in my practice to "slow down", especially when working with anxiety where everything feels chaotic. Practicing mindfulness allows us to have that inner peace.
