I'm a licensed psychotherapist and I've been working clinically since 2015. I am a structured, yet flexible, therapist who is warm, supportive, and encouraging. I work with adult clients struggling with anxiety, stress, perfectionism, and depression. I work to help them better understand their thoughts and feelings. From there, I teach them how to change distorted thinking as well as better regulate their emotions.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, I will do an intake. The intake involves several questions where I ask about your background, the symptoms bothering you, and what your goal is for our time together. In the intake, I'm hoping we can both get a sense of each other and see if we are a good fit both in terms of personality, as well as if I'm a good fit to help you meet your goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I enjoy working with younger adults, particularly when there are also issues of perfectionism and self-judgment. I have struggled with being an overachiever, and while it is gratifying to have high achievements, in my experience there is also a lot of difficulty and even pain that comes with it.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use David Burns' TEAM-CBT tools, which uses a lot of self measure to track progress and improve efficacy of treatment. This includes thought tracking, emotional identification, and learning tools to challenge negative thoughts. I recommend this treatment method when a client has a strong inner critic, or an ongoing internal dialogue of judgement and worry. This is structured and methodical, which I have found to be very effective with getting results. For clients who prefer less structure, we can easily modify this as well, results might just take a little longer.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have found that for whom CBT is not a good fit, DBT often is a much better fit. This approach is based on concrete skill building and it focuses on things like how to better understand emotions (not just label them), acceptance, and tolerating painful moments. The dialectical piece of DBT is accepting what you cannot change, while at the same time changing the things you can. This can be really powerful, validating, and in some ways it seems more wholistic than CBT to me. I recommend this treatment method when a person is struggling to manage their emotions, experiencing intense emotions, or engaging in a lot of avoidance. We usually avoid things because we don't have other tools to tolerate the pain. DBT is an effective way to teach these types of tools.
