Hi there! My name is Zheng Liang, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I graduated from the University of Miami. My journey to this profession was fueled by a desire to help individuals and families grappling with various forms of trauma. I'm particularly moved to assist those in minority communities dealing with cultural challenges and limited support system. I weave together techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing, ensuring a comprehensive toolkit for you. Think of these approaches as the keys to unlocking new insights and building valuable skills in your personal toolbox. Together, we'll navigate the path towards your growth and well-being.
Consider our first session as the commencement of a meaningful therapeutic journey. My aim is to create a space where you feel at ease sharing your thoughts and concerns with me. Throughout our time together, we'll explore your current situation, delve into your history, and identify potential therapeutic goals. As we conclude our session, I'll check in to ensure your comfort with our partnership. Your questions, thoughts, and curiosities about therapy? They're treasures I cherish.
For the last five years, I have served my community’s most vulnerable populations: refugees, individuals with chemical dependence, domestic violence victims, and the LGBTQ+ community in Miami. My approach is culturally responsive and I welcome everyone. To my BIPOC community, non-native English speakers, those of all beautiful shapes and sizes, and individuals with disabilities — I see you, I hear you, and I'm here for you.
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) is all about accepting your thoughts and feelings while committing to take actions that align with your personal values. It offers a practical approach to handle life's challenges, promoting psychological flexibility and resilience. Instead of trying to get rid of negative thoughts or feelings, ACT encourages changing your relationship with them.
A core aspect of DBT is validation of the your experiences and emotions. This can create a sense of being understood and accepted. You will also learn the practical skills to navigate intense emotions, enhance relationships, and manage distress, providing a tangible toolkit for daily life and emotional crises.
Motivational Interviewing is like having a supportive conversation with a guide who helps you explore your goals and navigate through uncertainties. It's about understanding your unique perspective, empowering you to make choices aligned with your values, and discovering your own motivation for change.
