My practice offers a helping relationship that is evidence-based for individuals. This process helps clients gain a different perspective, work toward values and goals, maintain committed actions, and find ways to reduce pain and struggle. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, from Delaware State University and a Masters of Science in Counseling with an Emphasis on Spirituality from Loyola University in Maryland. My practice believes in whole body healing. Which incorporate mindfulness, spiritual exploration, and somatic approaches. As a holistic practitioner I can help clients find alternative solutions such a diet, aromatherapy, herbal medicine and somatic bodywork therapies as way of healing. I have worked in a variety of settings including as a High School Guidance Counselor, Residential Treatment Center Therapist, and health care employee. With each role I gained a renewed since for my life purpose which is to help people in all walks and stages of Life.
The first session I usually ask "Why did you push send?" this is my way of addressing your acute stressors or current state of mind. With that we usually uncover where you are in this moment regarding needs. I identify potential assessments and tools we may be using. This can also be a good time to review your past experience's in therapy. Then we sometimes end with a grounding exercise or breathing technique. We also assess whether this therapeutic relationship is this is a good fit and next steps. I may inform you of some of an evidence based approach used such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Mind-Body and Adlerian. With all the the main emphases is that each and every person I work with is valued. I am an active listener, use thoughtful encouragement, have a nonjudgmental presence, and use a healthy dose of laughter so we can work toward your goal of living a healthy life.
Some of my greatest strengths are being an active listener, open, nonjudgmental, show sincerity and caring. Many of my clients stay and return because I am good problem solver and can guild them to living a value directed life. My education and emphases is evidence based. This means you can research the expected outcome for yourself to gain more agency regarding your care. I use a team approach which allows you to feel more comfortable expressing what you feel is right for your well being.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based, values-directed behavioral therapy. I have been an ACT therapist for the past 7 years. It has help people gain a better understanding of their life condition and improve vitality. I use it as a psychoeducational tool to help client move in the direction of their values to have a fuller and meaningful life.
CBT can teach you strategies to modify unhelpful thoughts (cognitions) and behavior's. I use this a psychoeducational tool to help client get a better understanding of their thinking, behaviors and feeling. This allows them to decrease the symptoms and improve their functioning.
I use Adlerian psychotherapy approach. I use it to help client's with attain goals and is overcome feelings of inferiority though insight. My ultimate goal is to support a person's through a holistic approach to personal growth. I strive to encourage and support clients' efforts and to build a trusting relationship.
This is used to teach client's about mental health and illness, and how to manage symptoms. I have able help people understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and how to cope with their condition.
