Hello! My name is Ms. Tawanda McPhatter and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Virginia. I received my Master's Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, and I have been providing therapy services for 12 years. I allow my clients a safe space to discuss their issues, concerns, and needs for themselves using behavioral approaches. I am a very avid listener and I feel that listening is very important when assisting my clients and helps identify their feelings and thoughts on things so that I can identify ways that I can be of assistance in helping to work through and/or address these issues and/or concerns.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through together in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having provided client with therapy for the past 12 years, I've developed a tried-and-true playbook for helping to identify the root cause of your challenges and create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a behavioral therapy used in my practice to assist my clients with implementing change. It is used to assist with symptom management and coping techniques. This is used to assist most of my clients struggling to manage depression, anxiety, and finding ways to cope with life stressors.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT is used in my practice with clients that struggle with personality disorders and interpersonal conflicts. I also use this treatment method with clients that struggle with mood disorders.
