My name is Vanessa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida, Missouri, New Hampshire & New Mexico and South Carolina. I am bilingual(English & Spanish) and can provide counseling in both languages. My clinical background in Mental Health began as an undergrad and continued through grad school, working for the public sector for the Department of Children & Families where I worked with children, then the elderly in skilled nursing facilities and with adolescents in group homes. I then went on to work as a Nurse Navigator and provided services that included counseling and advocacy for oncology patients at one of the largest cancer hospitals in South Florida. In addition to this, I have also worked with adults in inpatient rehab for substance abuse and court ordered treatment, and served outpatient clients in the LGBTQ community. My training is in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Solution Focused, and many others that include treatment planning; where my goal is to get my client back to a normal baseline that they are comfortable with and can function in their daily life. I am an open minded, kindhearted and empathetic individual, where my mantra is that I am here for YOU, my job is to assist you in anyway that I can, and help you manage life's daily stressors that may be recent or long-term. We all have good and bad days, I believe we are all one step away from a mental health crisis. Life is one big roller coaster of stress, worry, emotion that all revolve around something changing in our life that we were not prepared for and do not know how to adjust to it. So my job is to help you navigate all of that and achieve happiness, peace and overall well being.

Welcome and thanks for stopping in. My name is Kristy, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and my pronouns are she/her/hers. My ancestry is both Native American and northern European. I have been working with young people since 2013 and I have seen how overwhelming life can feel these days. There are so many pressures in school, at home, with your peers and in society at large! Have you been feeling stressed, anxious, and/or worried about your future? Perhaps you feel consumed with thoughts about how you compare to others and what others think of you? Is your mind full of racing thoughts about how you just might not be good enough? Or perhaps there is a relentless inner critic that won't let you off the hook? I know how this feels because I have been there myself and I can tell you it does not have to be this way. You can learn to develop a different kind of relationship with yourself: One in which you can learn how the mind works & how to navigate its unhelpful & painful patterns more effectively; one in which you can discover how to approach yourself with kindness & support--the way you would a good friend in pain; one in which you uncover your strengths, gifts & values and allow this self-knowledge to help you make decisions in your life of which you feel proud. PARENTS: Are you in a place where you are ready to dive deeper into your own unconscious patterns that are affecting the way you parent? Do you ever think that you do not want to do some of the same ineffective things with your children that your parents did with you, but find it hard to stop? I am here for you too.

I am originally from Boston, but I spent 20 years in Chicago. In July, 2021, I moved to New Jersey with my family. I am married with four children (a 16 year old son, 14 year old daughter, and twin 11 year old sons). I love spending time with my family and friends. Some of my favorite activities are going to the beach, riding my bike, traveling, reading, watching sports, playing at the park with my kids, cooking with my husband, and sharing a meal with loved ones. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and my Master's of Social Work Degree at The University of Michigan. I have been working with children, families, and adults for over 20 years. I have worked in juvenile detention, schools, private practice, and as a home-based therapist. Most of my experience has been working with clients who are struggling with mental health concerns, such as Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, ADHD, and Psychosis. I have also worked extensively with clients who have experienced relationship issues, trauma and abuse, and interpersonal conflict. I believe that my role as a therapist is to listen and understand the needs and motivations of my clients. Once there is understanding of the client's goals, then we can work together to help him/her/them get there and conquer obstacles that may be getting in the way. I typically use Cognitive Behavioral strategies to work with clients on changing problematic behaviors and thought processes. I approach therapy through a Humanistic lens that examines all of the systems in one's life and how they are working/not working for that client. My style is warm, open-minded, and supportive. However, I also believe in honesty and the need for direct communication. Asking for support is a brave first step in working to create the life you want to live. I'm excited to work with you on this difficult, but rewarding journey!

Therapy is about opportunities and possibilities. Opportunities and possibilities are done with exploration, discovery, and destinations. I am the guide helping someone realize those opportunities and possibilities as I support the individual through their own exploration, discovery and destinations. This is done with a focus on the individual and not the theories. I am not a “one technique fits all” type of practitioner. I am someone who uses creativity and flexibility to help connect with the individual. Therapy is about the relationship with the individual. Without a healthy therapeutic relationship, the goals the individual wants to achieve in therapy will not be obtained. Therapy is about you, not theories. I also hold post-graduate certificates in Gerontology, and Palliative/End of Life Care. I am pursuing my doctorate in social work in a combined program through Kutztown and Millersville Universities. I believe in building a solid therapeutic relationship based on trust, empathy and respect using a variety of techniques, and building from a strengths-based perspective to help foster understanding, coping and change. My eclectic therapeutic techniques often include CBT, transformational and psychodynamic approaches, individualized in relation to each client’s need and provided through a trauma informed lens. I am experienced in individual, family, and group counseling. It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. My hope is to provide a safe, nonjudgemental environment for you to discover yourself and to start on the road to healing. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you! Best, Christina

Great to meet you! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in New Jersey and have been practicing for the last 5 years. Frequently asked questions

Why filter by New Jersey rather than a city like Newark?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across New Jersey from Jersey City to Paterson! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in New Jersey.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
