I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience. I am an Army veteran and have spent a lot of time working with soldiers and their family members. Both of my parents served, so I understand the unique dynamics of the military family. Additionally, I have counseled a wide range of clients with issues that range from anxiety, depression, grief and loss, goal setting, relationship issues, crisis situations and much more. I have also conducted PTSD and Caregiver Support Groups. My counseling style is to start where you are and allow you the client to be treated with the respect that you deserve. I utilize Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Crisis Intervention and other therapy modalities when working with clients. I like to use an eclectic approach and tailor the modality that works best for each individual client or family as we are all beautifully and uniquely created. It is a huge step to go into counseling, so I commend you for your bravery. I am here to support you along the way.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is a conversation to review the data that may have been submitted and to understand why you may be coming to therapy. I will also be interested in your expectations and goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have worked with an array of clients and I think that is what makes me unique. Not only did I serve in the military, but I followed my spouse around for twenty-two years and both my parents were Air Force. My youngest son recently joined the military. so I believe I have multiple perspectives in regards to the military community. However, I have also worked years in the civilian sector in private practice, so I am comfortable working with diverse populations.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am here to serve clients that understand that therapy is a journey that does take time and patience but is well worth it when the work is put in.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is great for combating negative thoughts and feelings about situations and oneself. I like to help clients find the positive outcomes in these situations and apply them to their lives in a constructive way.

Couples Counseling

I enjoy working with couples. I like to start with both in the first session and then meet with each one individually right after. I teach communication skills and give a lot of feedback and homework and listen for reports coming back so we can together figure out what works and what needs building on in order to restore the relationship.

Motivational Interviewing

I like using MI for clients having difficulty making decisions or trying to break habits or find better ones. We talk about the stages of change and figure out where you are and on a scale of one to ten what it will take for you to get to reach your goals. We work towards those goals through a series of conversations and check-ins each week.

Faith based therapy

As a Christian, I like to approach therapy from a strength based therapy to include leaning on faith that people may come into sessions with. This includes but not limited to providing relevant scripture and praying with a client if asked or in agreement.
