Hello, I’m Alma Pozo-Breen, Ph.D., a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a passion for guiding individuals on their unique paths toward healing and growth. I hold a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, as well as master’s degrees in Counseling Psychology and Biology, which provide me with a multidisciplinary perspective to support my clients holistically. With over 30 years of experience, my practice is rooted in twelve evidence-based practices, offering personalized, effective care designed to meet your specific needs. These practices not only provide a strong foundation but also serve as a way to positively challenge and inspire you, helping you build resilience, foster growth, and unlock your full potential. Growing up in the culturally vibrant border towns of Calexico, California, and Mexicali, Mexico, I developed a deep cultural understanding and sensitivity that allows me to connect meaningfully with clients from diverse backgrounds. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults, creating a supportive space where every individual feels valued and empowered. Throughout my career, I’ve held transformative leadership roles, including serving as the Director of the REDEEM program at the Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley and as Program Manager for the Justice Care and Opportunities Department in Los Angeles County, where I supported individuals re-entering the community. In our work together, I strive to create a safe, nurturing environment where you feel seen, heard, and supported. My evidence-based approach is designed to guide and challenge you in a positive, meaningful way, helping you achieve insight, growth, and a stronger sense of well-being.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, expect relief and empowerment. Building trust and rapport is my priority, creating a safe space for sharing your story. I know opening up to someone new can be daunting, so I emphasize cultivating a trust based bond. Many clients describe our sessions like talking to a trusted friend, yet recognize the substantial growth happening within those conversations. Ultimately, I aim for you to feel supported, understood, and e-quipped with tools to confidently navigate life's challenges.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Couples Counseling

Are you feeling uneasy around your partner or constantly on edge, anticipating an argument? This is a common experience for couples, especially after major life changes like moving in together or getting married. Unfortunately, many people cope by avoiding conflict, which can lead to unresolved issues, resentment, and long-term challenges in the relationship. I provide a safe and supportive environment for couples to explore their concerns and break through obstacles in their relationship. Together, we’ll identify patterns, address conflicts, and develop healthier communication skills to help you grow stronger as a couple. Couples who embrace this process often come out feeling closer, more connected, and with a fresh perspective on their relationship. If you’re ready to move past negative cycles, high conflict, or unresolved grief and embrace the rewarding aspects of being together, contact me today to begin your journey!
