I am a graduate of USC and licensed for 25 years. My experience began with LA County Children’s Services, and throughout my years I have also worked for probation, health/hospital services and the mental health departments. I have years of experience working with foster and transition age youth (16-25). I am an experienced clinician who is a university faculty member who teaches bachelor and master’s level students and a creator of social work training to support social workers entering the field. My area of expertise is assessment and documentation, particularly in crisis situations.
During the first session I will engage you in a full assessment to determine your reason(s) for seeking mental health treatment. The initial session will provide an opportunity for you to get to know me, my style, and personality and determine whether you would like to move forward with follow up sessions. While the first session is typically covered by insurance benefits, those who are inquiring about supportive services are advised that self-pay is required for services that are not justified with symptoms and a covered mental health diagnosis. Brief 15 minute consultation calls are available to determine your needs prior to engaging in the assessment process.
I am straight forward and realistic. I have years of experience responding to and evaluating crisis situations, so I work best with those who are in initial stages, trying to figure out what they need and/or want to help manage and get through trying times. I work best with those who can appreciate a bit of humor, even during difficult times, because it is true sometimes we have to laugh to keep from crying. I am a source of support, but I can/will not work harder than you in this therapeutic relationship.
I am skilled at helping clients evaluate their current situation and figure out how to move forward, whether they are in crisis, considering treatment for the first time, returning to treatment, trying to manage a situation for themselves (or a family member), or seeking guidance regarding the process of seeking mental health treatment and navigating systems. My services are short-term and solution focused, averaging up to about 15-20 sessions. If you are new to mental health systems and are seeking support as you begin the process of seeking treatment, you may find my services ideal. If your goal is longer term (5-6 months or more) treatment, I may not be the best fit.
I am a licensed clinical social worker with 25 years of experience. I am a specialist of crisis evaluation and am skilled at working with clients who are interested in short-term, client-centered, solution focused services. My approach to therapy is cognitive-behavioral to the extent that the goal is to help clients realize how their thoughts influence their actions and how irrational and/or illogical thoughts can lead to inappropriate responses to situations. My approach is client-centered. I believe clients should have a space to share, while I listen and support the client through the decision making process. I am a realist who helps clients develop coping skills, techniques, resources and social supports that will help them better manage their life. I am gentle, but realistic. I am best described as direct, no-nonsense, a "straight-shooter." I have been told I am funny, which can be helpful even during difficult times, but I don’t “candy coat” the issues. Our initial session should be considered an introduction, a chance for you to tell me about yourself by responding to some questions I will have, as well as you volunteer information about yourself. The amount of information you provide is up to you, based on your level of comfort. If you think we might be a good fit, I encourage you to reach out today.
