Hi! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Supervisor (LPC-S) based in Texas. I received my Master of Counseling degree from Dallas Baptist University, and I have been practicing now for 18 years. My passion is in working with women struggling with relationships and balancing family.

I also specialize in working with families that have a child with a diagnosis of Autism and adults with Autism.

First session

Our first session will be a great time to go over some information on counseling sessions such as confidentiality. We can spend time answering any questions you have for me or counseling and then I will get to know you and learn what challenges you are facing. This will help me create a tailored plan to give us direction for future sessions. Sometimes I also start a genogram which I use as a tool that will allow me gather information about family history and possibly identify where concerns come from within the family. I will ask you what you want to get out of counseling and what your expectations are for the sessions.

Strengths

I love what I do as a counselor. It has been an honor watching my clients grow and have "lightbulb moments". It is exciting to watch clients learn new tools and coping strategies and make lasting changes. I have worked as a counselor for 18 years. I am skilled at identifying root causes and then creating a plan that leads to lifelong progress. I am a certified PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator. I am also a certified provider of the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®).

Ideal clients

I work best with women struggling with codependency and also women struggling with relationship issues. I work to help in identifying feelings and thoughts and have tools for healthier communication strategies. I am a Christian counselor and work with women on finding their identity in Christ rather than the world or other people. I also do couples therapy and work on issues around boundaries and communication.

Treatment methods

Christian Counseling

I have a ThM which is a 4-year master's degree in theology. In my counseling sessions, I believe it is important to integrate best-practices in psychology with biblical and theological truths which enables myself as the counselor and you to address the entire person: body, mind, soul, and strength. My passion is in walking with clients as they make decisions to trust God with their deepest hurts, fears, and hopes.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT, is a form of treatment which I have used in my counseling sessions for 18 years. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. In counseling sessions, we will use CBT to recognize how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. CBT is an evidenced based treatment that has been shown to lead to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life.

Structural Family Therapy

This is a family therapy technique that helps change patterns of interactions and improve functioning within those systems. Establishing clear and appropriate boundaries are key in structural family therapy. When we address how family members relate to one another we will work to improve communication and relationships to create positive change within the system.

Shannon was very insightful, she addressed issues we have that we didn’t even bring up. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with her.
