I am a licensed mental health counselor, based in Florida, with a Master's degree in professional counseling, emphasis on trauma, marriage and family, special populations, consulting and school counseling from Webster University, Bachelor's degree in criminology and human services from Saint Leo University and an Associate's degree in Paralegal Studies from the College of Central Florida. I am a Florida Supreme Court certified dependency mediator and credentialed instructor for the Department of Children and Families. I have 10 years experience as a counselor, and enjoy working with persons who have experienced ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and other traumas.
The first session is information gathering. Here is where you to tell me about you, your family history, health and mental wellness, why you seek therapy and your expectations. Empathy is plentiful here. Please, don't allow the stigma associated with mental health care keep you from living your best life. "Heal Thyself," resonates with me. You have more power than you know!
I believe, it is important for the therapist to understand the cultural "language" spoken, even before a word is uttered. When a client feels they are understood, it builds trust. There are some who have been culturally conditioned to believe that therapy breaks tradition, or signifies a lack of faith. These are myths. As a therapist, I understand the importance of cultural competence. Respect is spoken here. Welcome to my place!
As a trauma focused therapist, the goal is not to re-traumatize you, but to help you free you from past pain. Your past is like a microfiche. It is for reference only. It cannot be changed. It happened, but sometimes it prevents you from running towards what is in front of you. The better is in front of you and deserve good things. I work with clients you have the "mother wound." You were born to a mother who birthed you but was too broken to hold you. Let go of the mindset that you have to get along or go along because she is your mother. You do not. Sometimes no contact is the best contact. Do what promotes a healthy emotional state. This is about YOU and your healing. Come on in.

I enjoyed Connie’s style of therapy. I found out things about myself I didn’t realize after one session.

I really enjoyed my session with Connie. She is so knowledgeable and has a way of empowering me but remaining humorous . She has a way of breaking down trauma and teaching ways to work through it.

Great first session. She opened my eyes to a new world of trying to figure things out within myself to fix other things outside of myself also.
