I'm a LCMHCS, LPCS, LCAS, CCS based in North Carolina and practicing in NC, SC, GA, TX, AZ, MA, ME, RI, NH and US VI.

I have been practicing for over 20 years and enjoy working with a diverse population of people. I have several areas of expertise and enjoy using them to support my clients in their overall life goals and plans for success.

First session

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. Together we will ensure that your goals and issues are addressed as well as we construct a plan that will be sustainable presently and for future concerns.

Strengths

I having worked with very diverse clients over the past 20 years, I've developed journals to help assist many of my clients with a tried-and-true playbook for helping identify the root cause of challenges and create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.

Ideal clients

I love working with different individuals who are experiencing concerns and have the desire to work through the issues and coming up with better results. My clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have over 20 years of experience using CBT. Focusing on changing negative thought patterns and behaviors to improve mental health and overall well-being. I have developed a line of journals that I enjoy using to help support the clients on their therapy journey and it typically translates to having tools and skills that individuals are able to use in their overall life goals and other pursuits.

Motivational Interviewing

I have over 20 years of experience using MI as a counseling approach to help individuals explore and resolve ambivalence about behavior change. Using this approach aims to evoke motivation form within ones self and guide them towards making positive changes. I have developed a line of journals that I enjoy using to help support the clients on their therapy journey and it typically translates to having tools and skills that individuals are able to use in their overall life goals and other pursuits.

Reality Therapy

I have over 20 years of experience using Reality Therapy as a therapeutic approach to help individuals take responsibility for their choices and actions in the present moment, with a strong emphasis on meeting basic needs for love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun. I have developed a line of journals that I enjoy using to help support the clients on their therapy journey and it typically translates to having tools and skills that individuals are able to use in their overall life goals and other pursuits.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I have over 20 years of experience using Solution Focused Brief Therapy as a goal-oriented therapeutic approach that focuses on exploring clients' strengths and resources to create solutions rather than dwelling on problems. I have developed a line of journals that I enjoy using to help support the clients on their therapy journey and it typically translates to having tools and skills that individuals are able to use in their overall life goals and other pursuits.

Dr. McIlwaine had some insightful and helpful recommendations for me during the first session. My only suggestion for improvement is that while I appreciated Dr. McIlwaine's ideas (several of them were great), I would have appreciated it if she had created more of a space to help me feel more empowered to choose the solutions that would have been the best fit for me instead of pushing (beyond just suggesting) the solutions that she thought were best for me.
