Hi there! I hope this finds you well. I am a husband, father of 2 little ladies, animal dad to our zoo (4 dogs, 2 cats and a bearded dragon). I am a LICSW. I have 15 years of Social Work experience. I graduated with a BS in Psychology and a Master of Social Work from The University of Alabama (T Town). I first worked at a community based mental health center as a substance abuse group and individual therapist and then transitioned to working with patients from 8-18 years of age. I was a Juvenile Court liaison as well as individual therapy. My 2nd job- I was a hospital discharge planner at a local hospital in north Alabama. I then transitioned to working with patients receiving dialysis where I provided therapy to patients and family helping to process amputations, chronic illnesses, chronic pain, amputations and end of life decisions. I am a very well rounded social worker and have heard, seen and supported patients through many different life situations.

First session

We will work on building rapport and identifying your presenting concerns. We will rank them from most urgent to least urgent needing attention. We will also complete a biopsychosocial assessment- your life from prenatal to current so as to provide a solid foundation of your upbringing and your experiences.

Strengths

My approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) , Gestalt therapy-a humanistic, experiential approach that emphasizes self-awareness, personal responsibility, and living fully in the present moment, and psychodynamic theory- exploring your thoughts, behaviors, interactions with the world and emotions along your life journey. Together, we'll look beyond the immediate problem to understand the whole picture of your health and well-being, identifying patterns, strengthening resilience, and developing practical strategies you can engage in everyday situations.

Ideal clients

An ideal client would be someone willing to be open with themselves with the help of a therapist guiding them along the processing and exploring aspects of therapy. It is best when a client is driven to maintain appointments as well as practice "homework" on their own time between sessions. It's best when the client also involves close loved ones to assist them in practicing therapeutic interventions agreed upon in sessions with the willingness to hear and accept progress, regression and dormancy.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

The patient will learn the triangle of thoughts, feelings, behaviors and how each interacts and influences the other sides of the triangle.

Biofeedback

Learning to be aware of physical functions during times of stress, anger, joy and happiness in order to help ground one self.

Gestalt

Learn to be in the moment and present as well as willing to accept your own behaviors without faulting others.

Psychodynamic

Tying your current emotions, thoughts, feelings (CBT) with your past experiences, traumas interactions with the world and emotions.

Couples Counseling

Working as a non-biased third party to facilitate the continuance of marriage through identifying concerns, behaviors and patterns while practicing practical interventions to support the voiced concerns.
