Erica Harris
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience working with adults to overcome problems with mental, emotional, substance abuse, spiritual, and or relationship conflicts.
My 5 years serving in the United States Army helped me become more disciplined and culturally competent, with the ability to participate in multi-disciplinary settings.
I gained my therapy skills via work in an Inpatient, Residential, and Intensive Outpatient facility focused on helping individuals with severe psychiatric and chemical dependency issues. I am the owner/operator of His Strength Counseling, serving individuals seeking faith-based counseling. I am a certified therapist specializing in Trauma and Personality Disorders. I have experience facilitating and creating groups and counseling individuals and couples. My 5 years serving in the United States Army helped me become more disciplined and culturally competent, with the ability to participate in multi-disciplinary settings.
First session
The first sessions are to get to know each other and ensure we will be a good fit. We will discuss what has brought the client to therapy and clarify expectations from the therapeutic process. A clinical history will be obtained over the course of the first sessions.
Strengths
I am a compassionate and active listener. My application of my education and training in Cognitive Behavioral, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Trauma-based therapies has helped clients to improve emotional processing, gain insight, develop problem-solving and healthy communication skills, and come to terms with an abusive past.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are adults aged 18 and up who have issues dealing with life stress, unresolved childhood trauma, and other issues, and are open to change and are willing to do their part in therapy. I strive to work collaboratively with clients, not as the expert in their lives but as a trusted, non-judgmental fellow guide.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I help clients to learn to identify and evaluate unhelpful thoughts, develop more positive and realistic thinking, and practice new behaviors in different life situations.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I help clients facilitate emotional processing and create secure relationships with self and others.
Motivational Interviewing
I collaborate with clients to help with communication styles, to explore and resolve ambivalence, assisting individuals to discover their own internal motivation for change
