I became a therapist because I had difficulty finding my own therapist I felt comfortable opening up to and thought, maybe, I could be that person for someone else who was struggling to find the right therapeutic fit. I'm an aging punk rocker with tattoos, piercings, and a minor in Philosophy. I'm accepting, patient, and a little sarcastic. I want to meet you where you are and am not here to lecture you on what you are or aren't doing in your life - I promise you, I'm not perfect either. I look forward to you bringing your whole authentic self to each session, no matter what that looks like.

First session

I'll answer any questions you have, and cover expectations for attendance and communication outside of session. I'll discuss confidentiality and its limits, what brings you to therapy, and help you set treatment goals that you feel are both achievable and relevant.

Strengths

Past patients have told me I ask a lot of good questions to help them think about the ways they think about things. I am able to sit and listen when you need it but I will also challenge you to explore different perspectives or behaviors that could help you better achieve your therapeutic goals. I don't typically assign 'homework' per se, but if worksheets are your jam, I am able to provide them in a moment's notice! I feel success in therapy looks different for everyone and isn't something that your therapist gets to define on your behalf.

Ideal clients

My ideal client acknowledges that what they are currently doing is no longer working out well for them and is open to change. They also understand that change is incredibly difficult and acknowledge that progress is not always going to look linear or pretty. I've worked with a wide variety of individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and am comfortable discussing whatever a client brings to the table. I strive to provide an accepting space for all I meet with.

Treatment methods

Existential

I rely a lot on Existential treatment methods because I firmly believe we are each in charge of our own stories and, while we may not have the best options to choose from, the choices we make still matter.

Humanistic

I focus on the unique individual and believe that, generally, people are inherently good and capable of making positive changes in their own lives regardless of what has happened in their past.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I believe you are the expert on your own life and practice what is called "unconditional positive regard" with each client. I aim to facilitate self-discovery and allow the client to lead the way as much as possible. I strive to be genuine and authentic with each client instead of hiding behind my 'Therapist' mask.

This is only my first meeting but it did not take me long to know she was a good fit. She let me talk and asked all the right questions. I felt like she wanted to get to know me. She is a skilled therapist, very personable and a great listener. I look forward to working with her.
