I am a BIPOC therapist who is passionate about creating an affirming, inclusive space where clients from diverse backgrounds feel safe, respected, and supported. For 10+ years, I have worked with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community experiencing depression, anxiety, complex PTSD, and adjustment disorders. During this time I have helped navigate life's challenges while building greater self-understanding, resilience, and well-being.

First session

As an affirming therapist building rapport and creating a safe environment is the foundation of my therapeutic approach. Together, we will identify strengths, develop practical coping strategies, and create a path toward greater alignment with your mental health and life goals. I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward healing and growth.

Strengths

My approach is collaborative and trauma-informed for a personalized treatment experience. I provide a space where we can explore the connection between your thoughts, emotions, physical experiences as well as relationships while working toward meaningful change. Whether you're facing a major life transition, processing past trauma, managing anxiety or depression, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself.

Ideal clients

I have worked with several clients during during my therapy career. I have found that I am a great fit for individuals that identify as LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, first responders, diagnosis of anxiety and depression, young professionals, individuals that are experiencing life transitions, CPTSD. If you are feeling unsure of yourself or your next steps in life, I am here to help support you through that process.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

When using this method I often highlight thought patterns that lead to unhealthy behaviors or dysregulation. We then explore healthy coping skills and ways to reframe negative thoughts patterns and dysregulated behavior.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

When using this method I like to silence the noise inside your body and brain by bring focus to your 5 sense and environment around you. We often internalize emotions and feelings and this teaches to externalize and ground yourself with natural coping skills. Grounding, anchoring, self regulation are all tools to support your mental and emotional wellness.

Trauma-Focused CBT

When using this method I seek to explore situations and experiences that have deeply impacted the way you think, behavior or even see yourself. Trauma manifest in many ways that show up in parent/child relationship, romantic relationships, friendships and even at work. I often explore childhood experiences, attachment, past relationships, and any other experiences that can help inform treatment.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

When using this method I help clients identify areas of disconnect within themselves. Sometimes we look to outside influences to validate or for approval in our lives. We work on self validation, self awareness and self worth. This is done by actively validating identity, using inclusive language, and addressing minority stressors.

Each time I meet with Shirelle, I feel heard and my sessions end with valuable takeaways for me to think about until our next session. The sessions feel focused on me and my situation, which I appreciate. If something happened between sessions, she allows me to share and we talk about it, but she also remembers to help me work on myself to be a better person moving forward. I am grateful to have found Shirelle.

In my first session I felt heard, understood, and felt I found someone to help me navigate my situation and dealing with emotions. I'm looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

I’ve been in a lot of therapy before, from person-centered to solution-oriented, and I think I’ve had some trouble finding providers who were a strong mix of both—Shirelle is that therapist! They listen attentively and not only validate, but then offer a next step that pushes me toward thinking that will help me continue to grow even further. I see myself taking that next step toward really thriving with Shirelle’s guidance!
