I am a mental health counselor licensed in Arizona, Florida, New Hampshire and Georgia with over 14 years of experience working with individuals and families.
I have also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse. I am trained as an a veteran suicide specialist and I am a certified trauma therapist. My counseling style is warm, caring and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don’t believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs as it is important to meet you where you are at and use your expertise as well. It takes courage to seek out help for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. I live by the view that if you can change the way you look at things the things you look at can change. This slight change in perspective can make a world of difference in your life! Thank you for stopping by and I look forward to working with you!
First session
I use the first session to introduce myself to the client and help them learn what to expect in future sessions. I also like to learn from the client what they expect of me, what their goals are and how I can help them achieve those during our time together.
Strengths
I have been told I have a very peaceful presence that invites my clients to relax and share openly with me. I feel that I am present with my client and through active listening can help direct them to their next steps.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with LGBTQIA clients and helping them process and discover their sexual or gender identity. I am excited to see them learn who they are and come into their true identity to flourish and grow as their authentic selves. I have served this community for most of my career and have enjoyed supporting each and every one of my clients through this journey of self discovery.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is evidenced based showing that our thoughts can influence our feelings and therefore our behaviors. If we can shift perspective then we will see a change in thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
Gender-affirming therapy
I have worked with numerous LGBTQIA clients and feel that gender-affirming care is appropriate for all clients.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I believe you are the best source of information for what you are experiencing and also the solution for how to correct the inconsistencies.
