I have been licensed since 2017 and I've been working in the mental health arena for just under a decade. I began working in community mental health and that gave me an excellent opportunity to work with people who were dealing with a large variety of issues, including significant trauma, depression, anxiety, self-harm, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, people struggling to find motivation, people who are grieving significant losses, people with attention or focus issues, and people just trying to find their place in the world. My primary concern is ensuring that you feel comfortable and safe to share openly. Wherever you are on your adventure, I want to meet you there and work with you until you reach your destination. I primarily practice cognitive behavioral therapy and I work very hard to keep myself updated on treatments that are identified as best practice therapy models by the state of Virginia. It is important to me to provide a service that is supported by research to ensure that my clients get the best service available. I tend to pull a lot from DBT, strength based counseling, motivational-interviewing, solution focused therapy, and mindfulness. It should also be mentioned that I have a lot of experience working with people who have had significant legal issues. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, and I love to learn.

First session

In our first session together, we'll start to get to know each other and identify what your goals for treatment are. I want to know what you want to accomplish and we're going to develop a plan together to get you there.

Strengths

I've worked with people from a lot of different walks of life. I love learning about people and I don't automatically think I know what's going to be best for you. The people I work with are intelligent and often have complex problems. We're going to work together to solve them.

Ideal clients

I love working with individuals (and families) who are struggling with anxiety, depression, or are working to process trauma. I love working with people who are eager to improve some aspect of their life, whether its family, career, relationships, friendships, or overall mental health.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been licensed since 2017 and I've been working in the mental health arena for just under a decade. I began working in community mental health and that gave me an excellent opportunity to work with people who were dealing with a large variety of issues, including significant trauma, depression, anxiety, self-harm, relationship issues, self-esteem issues, people struggling to find motivation, people who are grieving significant losses, people with attention or focus issues, and people just trying to find their place in the world. It should also be mentioned that I have a lot of experience working with people who have had significant legal issues. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, and I love to learn. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. It takes a lot of courage to reach out to a counselor, I look forward to hearing from you.

Strength-Based

To me, utilizing a strength based approach really just means that we're going to identify the things you already do well and figure out how to foster and grow those areas in a way that helps address whatever issue you're facing. An example I like to give is when people want to drink less soda. We wouldn't necessarily focus on punishing soda drinking, we would identify what other beverages you like to drink, and increase those to naturally reduce soda intake.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a person-centered, evidence based approach that seeks to help resolve ambivalence to changing behaviors. Motivational interviewing can be useful if you're looking to make a change but have difficulty self-motivating.

Trauma-Focused CBT

TFCBT is a structured, evidence based therapeutic approach that helps children and adolescents who have experienced trauma. The goal is to help children, and their families, recover and cope with the effects of trauma.

Family Therapy

I've worked with numerous families and have a lengthy history of providing intensive, family and community-based intervention for adolescents with serious behavioral problems, focusing on addressing the multiple systems (family, school, peers, community) that influence a youth's behavior.

Very understanding and works with your timeframe. He's excellent at making you feel comfortable and shows great interest in what the client says, going as far as to research topics he is unfamiliar with to better be able to discuss with client.
