I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who graduated from Rutgers School of Social Work. I have over 25 years of experience treating clients from diverse backgrounds and across various generations.

As every client is different, I try my best to tailor treatment strategies to them based on their unique clinical needs.

I believe in acting as a guide as opposed to a leader and as such I am always open to my clients’ preferences or suggestions regarding how to proceed with treatment. I work in collaboration with them as a means of empowering my clients to adopt a proactive, as opposed to reactive approach to their clinical challenges.

First session

I recognize that it is difficult and takes courage for clients to reach out and ask for help. That first call to a provider can be scary for someone who is new to therapy. The first session will focus on establishing therapeutic rapport and beginning to identify clinical issues. I strongly believe in starting where the client is and letting them set the pace of session. Consequently, I do not pressure clients to push beyond their comfort zone when it comes to disclosing personal information. I recognize that it takes time to develop trust and rapport within the therapeutic relationship so I always proceed with patience.

Strengths

I feel like my greatest strength as a provider is my ability to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients. Their level of comfort is of utmost importance to me and I have made every effort to create a warm, welcoming space for them. I am friendly and easily engage with my clients. I take the time to listen to them and to understand their unique situations. As every client is different, I try my best to tailor treatment strategies to them based on their unique clinical needs.

Ideal clients

I most enjoy working with adolescents and young adults who struggle with anxiety, persistent worry, academic stress, and social struggles. I teach my clients effective skills that empower them to manage their anxiety effectively. In addition, I also enjoy working with people from the LGBTQAIP community. I provide an affirming and supportive environment in which they can process their clinical issues and overcome their life struggles.

Treatment methods

Gender-affirming therapy

I provide an accepting and supportive environment which allows my clients to explore their gender issues in a safe, affirming space. I start where the client is and am careful to respect their affirmed name, preferred pronouns, and personal preference regarding the manner in which they choice to gender (or non gender if the client identifies as fluid or non binary). Together we explore ways client can find peace as they move toward embracing an identity that reflects their authentic self.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate aspects of DBT such as mindfulness, grounding, and guided imagery techniques to address panic attacks, generalized anxiety, obessessive worry, and intrusive thoughts.

I love Sandra! She listens to me yap and always has something insightful to ask that makes me think of my situation in a different way. She helped me realize that I needed to end a relationship, and has helped me through the transition of being on my own and rediscovering myself in the process. Couldn't recommend her enough!

Sandra has genuinely been a blessing. I have seen several therapists throughout my life, but Sandra has been by far the best. She's compassionate, and a great listener!
