Welcome! I'm Susan Briggs, and I am here to help provide you with a safe and welcoming environment to allow you the space to explore obstacles and concerns regarding your mental health and quality of life.

After establishing a good rapport together, and progressing through our agreed upon treatment plan, you will have the tools you need to continue into your next season without my support.

I will bring various tools and approaches to help you in key areas like communications, boundaries, family dynamics, and other concerns that you have.

First session

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then give you an opportunity to provide an overview of the specific areas you would like to explore. From that initial summary, we will work together on an appropriate treatment plan going forward.

Strengths

Over the years, I've developed strengths in listening well, clearly identifying key areas of struggle, and providing an encouraging environment that improves overall self-worth and self-confidence.

Ideal clients

I am especially motivated to work with those experiencing anxiety because it is the underlying obstacle to satisfaction in so many areas of your life, whether it's your friendships, family relationships, marriage or work place. I also welcome couples who are struggling to communicate, listen well, and understand one another.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Thoughts influence a person's emotions and body sensations, which then impact their actions. Learning to recognize and reframe thoughts can help a person change behaviors.

Couples Counseling

With couples I combine several different methods, which include CBT, reflective listening and narrative therapy. Also focus on communication and listening to help clients learn to hear one another and communicate in a more self-regulated way.

Christian Counseling

For Christian clients I apply counseling methodologies through the lens of their Christian worldview, drawing on biblical principles and content that can help them address mental health issues.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

In working with DBT, I help clients better regulate their emotions when stressed, equipping them to better cope and problem solve.

Motivational Interviewing

People who are in the process of change respond well to Motivational Interviewing. Working with the client on the stages of change helps them recognize where they are in the process of change and what they need to do in order to accomplish their goals.
