I have learned that I am not for everyone and everyone is not for me. I am a whole vibe professionally speaking. Therapy is a journey one in which the client is in the drivers seat and the therapist is in the passenger seat, shotgun! When you come to therapy its like showing up in some type of vehicle I will gladly get in and help navigate throughout the ride. Once the ride ends I get out and say goodbye until next time. Oh and I make sure during the ride you don't run us off the road ;).
Our first session is comprised of assessments and a get to know session. We will identify your thought and behavior patterns that impact your satisfaction with life and help towards establishing your wellness goals. Through our supportive relationship we will gain insight and design what's the best modality for you.
I have a strong client base for issues with anxiety, depression, and trauma. The first session dives deep into what will scratch the surface and open certain doors to rooms and places the client wants and needs to explore; or not. I recommend minimum 3 sessions to build upon your toolbox to help manage your symptoms.
The client that wants to get to the root of the pain, hurt, awkwardness, craziness, sadness, the list goes on is a great match with Ms. Tam. The client that also pulls from hope, spirit, experience, the unknown is a match with me. Its helpful for the client to remain open throughout at least 3-6 sessions after the assessment in order to fully rate symptom change.

Techniques can include, but aren’t limited to, dialogue, behavior modification, reframing thoughts, realizations, role play, communication skills, and expressive arts. To be more specific—worksheets, worksheets, worksheets! Did I mention worksheets? They’re not always homework, but they can be incredibly helpful. Hopefully, that’s a way you learn best.
EMDR
EMDR uses specific steps to access and reprocess information through alternating bilateral visual, auditory, or tactile stimulation. This approach is especially helpful when recalling traumatic events, as it offers grounding and a sense of safety. It’s typically applied when needed to identify and reshape the narrative, whether the experience is positive, negative, or neutral.
Christian Counseling
As a Christian faith-based believer, I talk with clients who share similar beliefs about their spiritual practices, including Christianity and other practices like prayer and meditation. I also understand that not everyone follows Christianity, and that’s completely fine. You don’t need to be a Christian to seek or benefit from therapy, or to work with me. There’s space for you here, and I see you too.
Eclectic
My counseling approach is very eclectic and includes person-centered therapy, birth order within the family system, cognitive-behavioral therapy and concepts of EMDR as well as DBT. I may pull from all or other theories and incorporate various techniques depending on the specific needs of the client, couple and/or family.

Ms. Hicks is very easy to talk to. She made it a comfortable first session and even came up with some ideas and strategies.

It is early in the process, but I believe we are starting off on the right foot. Ms. Hicks is genuine, open and intelligent. I believe she has the balance of Clinical and Faith based insight that will be helpful to many people, especially those who are wary of the sterile clinical approach to therapy.

Just completed my first session with Ms. Tam. I will admit I was nervous coming in as I have never been through therapy before. Ms. Tam was very light hearted, open-minded and solution oriented. I’m looking forward to unpacking and using her “isms” to help me grow!
