Shelia Ransom Jenkins
I’m Shelia Ransom Jenkins, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Delta Compassionate Care Counseling LLC, with over 20 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, perinatal mental health, and relationship challenges.
I draw from evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, ACT, and solution-focused therapy, while also specializing in perinatal mental health.
As a mother who has personally supported my son through anxiety, I understand the importance of feeling heard, supported, and understood. My approach combines compassion, lived experience, and evidence-based therapy to create a safe, judgment-free space where clients can heal, build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, and rediscover their peace.
First session
Your first session is all about you! I understand that starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've never talked to a therapist before. My goal is to help you feel comfortable, welcomed, and supported from the moment we meet. We'll take time to discuss what brought you to therapy, your personal experiences, current challenges, and what you hope to accomplish. I'll ask questions to better understand your background, relationships, emotional well-being, and any concerns you may have. You don't have to share everything at once, and there's no pressure to have all the answers. We'll also discuss confidentiality, what to expect from therapy, and begin identifying goals that are meaningful to you. I believe therapy should feel like a genuine conversation, not an interrogation. By the end of our first session, my hope is that you'll feel heard, understood, and more comfortable taking the next steps toward healing, growth, and positive change.
Strengths
I bring over 20 years of professional experience, compassion, honesty, and real-life understanding into every session. As a mother who has personally supported my son through anxiety, I understand that life doesn't always go as planned and that even the strongest people sometimes need support. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and judgment-free. I believe therapy should feel like a genuine conversation where you can be yourself without feeling criticized or misunderstood. I'm a therapist who will listen, validate your feelings, and give you space to process your emotions, but I will also gently challenge unhealthy thought patterns, encourage accountability, and help you see situations from a different perspective when needed. I don't believe in simply telling clients what they want to hear. I believe in helping them grow. Using evidence-based approaches such as CBT, ACT, EMDR, and solution-focused therapy, I provide practical tools you can use beyond our sessions. My goal is to help you feel heard, recognize your strengths, establish healthy boundaries, and make meaningful changes that bring more confidence, balance, and peace into your life.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are women, men, couples, and families navigating life's challenges who want to feel heard, understood, and supported. You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, pregnancy or postpartum changes, parenting stress, or major life transitions. Perhaps you're feeling emotionally exhausted, constantly overthinking, struggling to set boundaries, or finding it difficult to balance your own needs with everyone else's. I also enjoy working with couples who want to improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen their emotional connection. You don't have to be in crisis or have everything figured out to begin therapy. I work well with clients who appreciate honest conversations, compassionate support, practical coping strategies, and gentle challenges that encourage personal growth. Whether you're learning to prioritize yourself, heal from past experiences, manage difficult emotions, or build healthier relationships, I'll meet you where you are. Together, we'll work toward helping you feel more confident, emotionally balanced, and at peace with yourself and your life.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have extensive experience using CBT with adolescents and adults to treat anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress-related concerns. In practice, I help clients recognize the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and teach strategies to challenge negative thinking patterns, build healthier coping skills, and increase positive activities. I also incorporate structured exercises—such as journaling, mood tracking, and relaxation techniques—so clients can practice skills between sessions. My approach is flexible, adapting CBT tools to each client’s unique needs, whether managing anxiety through exposure and grounding or addressing depression with behavioral activation and reframing.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I use SFBT to help clients identify strengths, resources, and solutions rather than focusing solely on problems. My experience includes applying this method with adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are seeking practical and goal-oriented support. In practice, I guide clients to define their goals, explore “exceptions” when the problem is less severe, and build on what is already working in their lives. I use scaling questions, miracle questions, and strengths-based techniques to foster hope and highlight progress. This approach is especially effective for clients who want short-term, focused treatment that emphasizes empowerment, resilience, and positive change.
Couples Counseling
I provide couples counseling to help partners improve communication, resolve conflict, and strengthen their relationship. My experience includes working with couples facing challenges such as infidelity, trust issues, family stress, and adjustment to life transitions. In practice, I use evidence-based approaches such as Gottman Method techniques, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Cognitive Behavioral strategies to help couples identify negative interaction patterns, build empathy, and develop healthier ways to connect. I guide partners in practicing active listening, expressing needs respectfully, and rebuilding trust. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where couples can work toward mutual understanding, healing, and long-term growth.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use ACT to help clients develop psychological flexibility by learning to accept difficult emotions, separate from unhelpful thoughts, and live in alignment with their values. My experience includes applying ACT with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. In practice, I guide clients through mindfulness exercises, values clarification, and cognitive defusion techniques to reduce the impact of negative thinking. I encourage clients to focus on committed actions that support their goals and well-being, even in the presence of discomfort. This approach empowers clients to build resilience, increase self-compassion, and create a more meaningful life.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I incorporate DBT techniques in my work with clients who struggle with intense emotions, relationship challenges, or difficulty managing distress. My experience includes using DBT with adolescents and adults dealing with anxiety, depression, mood instability, trauma, and self-destructive behaviors. In practice, I focus on the four DBT skill areas—mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. I help clients learn to identify and manage emotional triggers, use grounding and coping strategies in crisis moments, and communicate more effectively in relationships. By balancing acceptance with change, I guide clients toward greater stability, resilience, and healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
