Audra Mathis
With over 16 years of professional experience, I am committed to helping others find ways to be their best. I want you to be successful. Because of that, I work hard to find out where you're stuck in life and how to help you feel better. I am licensed in Colorado and Texas.
If you need someone to "tell you straight" or need some "tough love" to break some unhealthy habits, I'm your person.
I completed my Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Adams State College in Colorado where I enjoyed living in the San Luis Valley, taking day hikes on the weekends and enjoying the majestic mountain views.
First session
The initial session is about getting to know you and starting to identify your goals. I will ask you what brings you here, what you would like to work on and create a plan together to help you reach your goals. You may ask me questions, share any concerns, etc. I am always open to feedback. I want you to have the best experience possible!
Strengths
I am often told how I am very easy to talk to and I am very personable. I love people! My style is conversational, solution-focused and positive. If you need someone to "tell you straight" or need some "tough love" to break some unhealthy habits, I'm your person. I do not believe in wasting anyone's time or money. I want you to succeed.

Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
When we change our thoughts, we can change our actions. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy teaches us to pay attention to the thoughts we have before we engage in a behavior/action. By improving our own perspective on how we think and feel, we can improve our responses to life's events around us. Essentially, positive thoughts lead to positive actions/behaviors.
Motivational Interviewing
What motivates you? Finding out where your drive is, what makes you "tick", is important in making lasting change in your life. When we find out where your motivations lie, we can help build connection for you to live your very best life. Excellent for those interested in life coaching, making lasting changes, finding a new career path, adding more focus to your goals.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
We can all have problems, talk about our problems, right? This type of therapy is what it says: Solution focused. Finding ways to navigate issues at home, at work, at school should always include solutions. My approach in therapy is conversational. As we talk, I learn about the struggles, troubles you face and we collaboratively find solutions.
Supportive
Support, support, support! Oftentimes we need someone to listen, to support and to validate our feelings. Supportive therapy is engaging, helpful and encouraging. I use supportive therapy techniques frequently with my clients as it improves rapport and understanding. With support, you're able to find the courage to make changes, identify pain points and understand why you're going through what you're experiencing at this time in your life.
Strength-Based
Play to your strengths, not your weaknesses. Sometimes we find ourselves overwhelmed in life. We discover we've got some weaker spots, some barriers which may be holding us back from being our best. I help you discover your strengths so you can navigate life easier.
