Hello! My name is Brianne Lutterman and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I grew up in a small town in Iowa and moved to San Antonio to get my Masters in Counseling from UTSA. I am married and have two high-spirited boys that keep me on my toes. I have a background working with pre-teens and teenagers as well as adults. I have worked in a variety of settings, such as community counseling centers, psychiatric hospitals, Child Protective Services, private practice, and a Residential Treatment Center for children and teenagers.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Coming to counseling is hard, so I like to make the first session as easy as possible for clients. I will take an extensive history from you, which includes a summary of what brought you into therapy. I do ask about traumatic events that have occurred, but a very general summary will usually suffice in the first session, as I like to dedicate a full session to this if needed and do not want to rush it. I will go over my method of counseling and answer any questions or concerns you might have. I encourage clients to consider goals that they want to achieve as a result of coming into counseling.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I feel that I am an empathetic listener that tries to step into your world as you experience it in order to understand your perspective and struggles. I teach cognitive behavioral therapy tools that you can use daily to challenge automatic negative thoughts in order for you to combat symptoms that you are experiencing. I am straight-forward in my approach, but also understand that sometimes you just need to have a listening ear and a supportive person in your life.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I would love to help those that are ready to learn and implement new methods of approaching the problems you are experiencing. My hope is that I provide an environment in which you are not fearful or hesitant to share whatever it is that you need to, as honesty and openness are vital in therapy. The clients that have seen the best outcomes tend to be those that are highly motivated to have a change in their life and are open to trying and implementing skills learned in their daily life on a consistent basis.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I encourage clients to identify and become more aware of the connections between their thought process and their feelings/behaviors. Automatic negative thoughts are challenged in order to alter the negative emotions and behaviors that they cause. I prompt my clients to identify their thought process, and encourage them to propose alternative perspectives on the situation. I will help bring awareness to your own thoughts that contribute to your negative symptoms and behaviors. Coping skills and education on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is taught throughout the process, and daily use of the skills is highly encouraged.
