Benjamin Nelson
I have had the privilege of working with with a broad range of clients for over 6 years in the counseling field. This experience has been beneficial and rewarding in my journey of understanding and providing strong clinical guidance towards a wide range of the population.
Another strong point of my clinical practice is my ability to be direct in conversation while maintaining strong adherence to ethical values of empathy, compassion, loving kindness, and non-maleficence.
While I am rooted in existential-humanistic theory, I love to take a multi-modal and flexible approach to psychotherapy, so that I can better serve each individuals unique psychological and emotional needs.
First session
People can expect to quickly feel at ease as we develop rapport and begin to conceptualize what they are struggling with, so that I can adjust my practical approach to align with their individual set of psychological and emotional needs. Clients can expect to feel relieved after their first session despite discussing challenging topics, as they are likely to feel understood and comforted knowing that they can talk to someone reliably and in confidence.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths as a provider is that I can quickly develop rapport by making clients feel that they are safe, respected, supported, and genuinely cared for. Another strong point of my clinical practice is my ability to be direct in conversation while maintaining rigorous adherence to ethical values of empathy, compassion, and loving kindness. I am passionate about the work I do and my clients can sense this.
Ideal clients
I have had the privilege of working with with a broad range of clients for over 5 years in the counseling field and have had the greatest success with both males and females ages 16-50. I am particularly experienced working with individuals who meet diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, as well as personality disorders.
Treatment methods
Humanistic
For the past 4 years I have placed primary emphasis on existential-humanistically oriented treatment, which focuses on the value of developing a strong therapeutic relationship with the clinician, and learning/committing oneself to a life grounded in authenticity, meaning, and responsibility.
Existential
For 4 years I have practiced existential counseling with clients, which helps explore meaning, personal values, and becoming/being one's most authentic self.
