Valerie Edwin
Welcome, I'm Valerie! I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University in 2014 and have spent over a decade working across NYC supporting individuals through life’s toughest moments—from managing anxiety and trauma to navigating chronic illness, grief, and family dynamics. As a biracial woman of Southeast Asian heritage, I am deeply passionate about cultural humility, social justice, and inclusive care. I honor the rich, complex backgrounds that make you who you are, and I craft care that reflects your unique identity and values
First session
I specialize in helping adults find clarity, grounding, and healing through: Trauma & healing — Processing family trauma, childhood issues, and adversity. Life transitions & grief — Finding your footing through loss, end-of-life care, or major life shifts. Emotional well-being — Building practical tools to manage anxiety, depression, and stress. Self-discovery & empowerment — Cultivating self-compassion, stronger boundaries, and confidence.
Strengths
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine, human partnership—not a cold or rigid clinical process. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, navigating a major life shift, or carrying the weight of past hurts, my goal is to walk alongside you with empathy, honesty, and absolute respect for your lived experience.
Ideal clients
I think we all come to a time in our lives when we are going through transitions. Clients who are struggling with direction in life, how they feel, insecurities, low self esteem--this is a great time for therapy! I have a great deal of experience in treating depression, anxiety, grief/loss as well as complex romantic or family relationships. I serve adults in individual sessions.
