Elizabeth Nowlin
Hello! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Kentucky. I earned my Master’s degree in Social Work and have been practicing in the mental health field for 14 years. Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience working with adolescents and adults experiencing ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, substance use, anxiety, and depression. My approach is centered on helping individuals heal from past and present trauma, develop greater self-awareness, and recognize and transform unhealthy patterns of thinking and behavior. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow. My goal is to help each person better understand themselves, build effective coping skills, and move toward becoming the healthiest and most fulfilled version of themselves.
I help adolescences and adults find ways to heal from their trauma, help them become more self aware, and to stop negative thinking, so they can become the best versions of themselves.
First session
Your first session with me is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin building a trusting therapeutic relationship. I will take time to learn about your background, your experiences, and what has brought you to therapy. We will discuss whether you have participated in therapy before, what you may currently be struggling with, and how those challenges are affecting your life. Most importantly, I want to understand what you hope to gain from your therapeutic experience and what goals you would like to work toward. My goal is to create a safe, comfortable, and judgment-free environment where you feel heard and supported from the very beginning. Together, we will begin identifying the areas you would like to focus on and develop a path forward that feels meaningful and manageable for you.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my empathetic nature and genuine desire to help others navigate challenges and find meaningful solutions. I want every client to feel heard, understood, respected, and supported throughout their therapeutic journey. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and I work alongside my clients to help them gain insight, develop effective coping strategies, and overcome obstacles that may be holding them back. My goal is to help you move toward the life you envision for yourself and provide the support and guidance you need to become the best version of yourself.
Ideal clients
I work with individuals ages 12 and older who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, substance use, and other life challenges. I help clients who are seeking greater happiness, balance, and fulfillment in their lives. I believe that understanding our past and present experiences can help us gain insight into the choices we have made and the patterns that may be affecting us today. Through therapy, I help my clients explore their experiences in a safe and supportive environment, gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and find greater peace, clarity, and direction as they move forward.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have used CBT with my clients to assist them in self discovery to understand their fears and insecurities so they feel more confident to change behaviors and enhance their lifestyle.
Motivational Interviewing
Through the process of Motivational Interviewing (MI), I have assisted individuals to discover what the want from their life and explore their ambivalence to find the motivation to make changes.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I have collaborated with my clients to find short term solutions that can provide opportunities to make more vital changes through motivation and positive results. Some of my clients feel more confident in making changes if they receive positive results by making small, safe steps towards their goals.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I have worked with a diverse group of individuals who have experienced substance abuse, unhealthy relationships, and many mental health conditions such as OCD, depression, and self doubt. Through TF-CBT, we will work towards healing, eliminating negative thinking, and acceptance so you may move forward with a new perspective and the confidence to make the changes that you desire.
