Congratulations on taking this step towards your personal wellness! My name is Gena Taylor-Tidwell, and I am an NCC certified Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) offering telehealth clinical counseling services in the states of Kentucky & Oregon.

While I am clinical and conscientious in my approach, I also believe in maintaining a relaxed atmosphere and incorporating humor when appropriate.

I received my Master's degree from Walden University of Minnesota and my undergraduate degree from Murray State University in Kentucky. I help adults understand and navigate a variety of concerns to empower them to become the best versions of themselves.

First session

The first session is a starting point for establishing the client/counselor connection that is essential to the therapeutic experience. To help us get started, we will go over your personal history, the current concerns you are having and your specific goals for our time together. From there, we will put together a plan for moving forward. Once we identify therapeutic fit and finalize the scheduling, we will address any questions you may have about therapy and its process. I want to ensure you feel supported and informed as we move forward together.

Strengths

I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their concerns. While I am clinical and conscientious in my approach, I also believe in maintaining a relaxed atmosphere and incorporating humor when appropriate. I find that by providing resources and creating microgoals for time between sessions, clients show greater progress in meeting their goals. Many times, clients report feeling less stressed, more grounded, and calmer. Through our sessions, people frequently feel more connected to themselves, have less overthinking, and become more confident in their ability to make decisions.

Ideal clients

I enjoy working with adults ages 18+. My clients are eager to improve, but might not have the insight, support or tools needed to make their goals a reality. If you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed and/or isolated, there are multiple techniques we can explore to find what works best for you!

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize an eclectic approach of theories that are customized to an individual client's needs. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) includes such techniques as mindfulness, understanding how our thoughts impact our emotions as well as identifying negative thought distortions then challenging and reframing them with cognitive processing theory (CPT). Acceptance and Commitment Theory (ACT) focuses on present moment, accepting thoughts and feelings without judgment and moving forward with that acceptance. Rational Emotive Behavioral Theory (REBT) helps clients identify self-defeating thoughts and feelings, challenges the nature of irrational and unproductive feelings, and replaces them with healthier, more productive beliefs. Dialectal Behavioral Theory (DBT) emphasizes personal choice, acceptance of the self and one’s situation, being worthy of love and positive relationships and explores emotional response vs reaction (REST). Positive Psychology emphasizes strengths and virtues that enable clients to thrive.

Gena has helped me work through many things that once created anxiety in my life. She has guided me in developing a more positive internal dialogue and given me practical tools to manage stress and anxiety when things become intense at work or in life. She has a wonderful way of being both gentle and firm when needed, and she is consistently supportive. I can’t imagine going back to a time when I wasn’t talking with her and putting in the work together to improve my day-to-day life.
