Hello, my name is Matthew Cruz, but many people call me Matt. I specialize in treating adult individuals. I enjoy talking with people about their problems, offering them support, and helping them to find a way forward. My background is in treating substance use and Eating Disorders. As such, I am familiar with a variety of treatment approaches, including CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing. However, I am looking for what approach works for each individual and am not attached to any one mode of treatment. I enjoy helping people explore meaning and symbolism in their world through a person centered approach to treatment. For those that are interested, I am comfortable incorporating faith and spiritual practice into the treatment experience. I do not provide couples or family therapy. Feel free to reach out to me with further questions!
Our first session will be one on one and focus on us getting to know one another. Feel each other out. Naturally, I will have diagnostic questions to ask, and I would expect to have at least one action item to work on come the end of the session.
I enjoy making connections with people and learning how to see the world from their perspective. I am a talker and enjoy laughing as often as possible. I am passionate about working with individuals and helping people achieving a better sense of mental wellness and achieving a higher quality of life.

Do you enjoy having interesting and/or challenging conversations? Are you interested in discussing your struggles? Are you looking for individual therapy? Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have been using this treatment modality since entering the field. I enjoy helping clients identify thought processes that are not helping them reach their goals and developing new perspectives to help them improve their quality of life.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I pull ideas and concepts from DBT to augment treatment as appropriate. I do not practice rigid or adherent DBT.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Recognizing the elements of our life that we cannot change and working to understand how to move forward with them is profoundly important.

Another wonderfully helpful session with Matt! I always appreciate the empathy, authenticity, and growth-centered suggestions. He works to understand my goals and never fails to challenge my current beliefs/behaviors that are getting in the way of growth. No judgment, just sincerity.

At 50, I am finally talking about the impact of adult ADD on my life, and it is such a relief! I have battled depression, anxiety, and OCD throughout my life with mixed success. Matt illuminated the impact ADD has on the challenge level of even routine tasks, along with techniques to work through them. By "partnering with" my ADD, as Matt would say, I can break down overwhelming activities into doable steps. I highly recommend Matt as an empathetic therapist who helps you make your own goals.
