Tanielle L.A. Brown
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with 30 years of experience in the mental health field and 14 years of experience operating my private practice. I support adults and couples experiencing anxiety, relationship distress, communication difficulties, parenting concerns, life transitions, diminished self-esteem, trauma-related concerns, and patterns that may be interfering with emotional well-being and healthier relationships. In couples counseling, I provide a balanced and respectful environment where each partner has an opportunity to feel heard. I help couples recognize recurring patterns, improve communication, navigate conflict more constructively, rebuild emotional safety and trust, and strengthen their connection. My role is not to take sides, but to help both partners understand the relationship dynamic and take meaningful responsibility for the changes within their control.
In my practice, I prioritize offering an eclectic blend of treatment methods, ensuring that each client's unique needs are met with precision and compassion.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients understand the connections among their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify beliefs and thinking patterns that may contribute to anxiety, depressed mood, diminished self-esteem, relationship distress, or ineffective coping. Depending on the client’s needs, we may use guided reflection, thought records, structured exercises, role-playing, and between-session practice. With couples, CBT-informed strategies can also help partners examine assumptions, interpretations, expectations, and behavioral responses that contribute to recurring conflict. The goal is to develop greater awareness and practice healthier, more intentional responses. My therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based practices with carefully selected holistic strategies to support insight, emotional regulation, personal growth, and sustainable behavioral change. I meet each client with compassion, curiosity, and respect, helping them identify the underlying beliefs and patterns connected to their current concerns.
First session
In our first session, clients can expect a welcoming and supportive environment where they feel heard and valued. We will start by discussing your primary concerns, goals, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. I’ll ask questions to get to know you better, including your background, current challenges, and any previous experience with treatment. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about my approach and ensure it feels like a good fit. Together, we’ll outline a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and set initial goals for our work. My priority is to create a safe space where you feel comfortable sharing and empowered to take the first steps toward positive change.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to listen closely and help clients look beneath the immediate concern to recognize the beliefs, emotional experiences, and relational patterns that may be contributing to it. I balance compassion with honest therapeutic reflection so clients can feel supported while also being encouraged to make meaningful changes. With couples, I remain balanced and attentive to each partner’s experience. I help partners slow down difficult interactions, identify recurring cycles, communicate their needs more clearly, and listen without immediately becoming defensive or withdrawing. Together, we work toward greater accountability, emotional safety, mutual understanding, and healthier connection. My approach is collaborative, person-centered, trauma-informed, and tailored to each client’s needs. Depending on your goals and clinical appropriateness, I may integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, solution-focused strategies, mindfulness, grounding, guided reflection, psychoeducation, and complementary wellness practices. I believe therapy should provide more than a place to discuss problems. It should help you develop insight, practice useful skills, recognize your strengths, and apply what you learn between sessions. Whether you are seeking individual or couples counseling, I will support you in approaching your goals with greater awareness, confidence, and personal agency. When clinically appropriate and within the scope of informed consent, I may incorporate biofeedback-informed and complementary wellness strategies to support relaxation, mind-body awareness, and emotional self-regulation. These services are used as supportive tools and do not replace evidence-based psychotherapy, medical care, or psychiatric treatment. I help clients recognize how stress may affect their bodies and practice accessible techniques such as paced breathing, grounding, mindfulness, and relaxation exercises. We discuss any complementary approach collaboratively and tailor it to the client’s goals, preferences, and clinical needs.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Experience with CBT: In my practice, I have extensive experience using CBT to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and beliefs that contribute to their emotional distress or maladaptive behaviors. I have worked with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and self-esteem issues, applying CBT to foster insight, self-awareness, and actionable change. I adapt CBT techniques through telehealth to engage clients effectively, using interactive tools such as shared worksheets, guided thought records, and virtual whiteboards. How I use CBT in my practice: I use CBT to help clients recognize how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. Together, we explore thought patterns and identify opportunities for healthier coping strategies. For example, we may use thought journaling to uncover cognitive distortions or practice role-playing to prepare for real-life challenges. By setting clear goals and using structured sessions, I guide clients toward building resilience and achieving greater control over their emotions and behaviors.
Biofeedback
Experience with Biofeedback: I have successfully used frequency-based biofeedback therapy in my telehealth practice to help clients manage anxiety, mood swings, and other emotional challenges. By leveraging remote tools and technology, I guide clients through biofeedback sessions to gain insight into their physiological responses and develop greater self-regulation. Many of my clients have experienced significant improvements in their mental wellness, enabling them to enhance progress in their treatment and achieve lasting emotional balance. How I use Biofeedback in my practice: Using biofeedback therapy, I help clients understand and regulate their body's responses to stress and emotional triggers. Sessions focus on monitoring heart rate variability, breathing patterns, and other physiological indicators through accessible, user-friendly remote devices. Together, we use this data to practice relaxation techniques, develop mindfulness, and strengthen self-regulation skills. This approach empowers clients to achieve greater control over their emotional well-being, complementing other therapeutic methods to enhance overall treatment outcomes.
Group Therapy
Experience with Group Therapy: I have extensive experience facilitating group therapy sessions that foster connection, mutual support, and shared growth among participants. Over the years, I have led groups that address a variety of concerns, including anxiety, self-esteem, relationship challenges, and personal development. Group therapy provides a safe and collaborative environment where individuals can learn from others’ experiences, share their own, and build interpersonal skills that support their therapeutic goals. How I use Group Therapy in my practice: In my practice, I use group therapy to create a supportive space for clients to explore their challenges and discover solutions collectively. My upcoming group, Growth Mindset, starting January 5th, is designed to help participants develop resilience, cultivate a positive outlook, and embrace personal growth. This group will focus on actionable strategies to overcome limiting beliefs, set meaningful goals, and celebrate progress in a nurturing and empowering environment. Through guided discussions and interactive exercises, participants will gain valuable insights and tools to enhance their mental wellness and achieve their aspirations.
