Jason Magistro
I'm Jason, a Licensed Professional Counselor who believes therapy should be a place where you can show up exactly as you are. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, addiction, major life transitions, and those deeper questions of meaning, purpose, identity, and direction.
Strengths of mine are my passion to connect and engage with my clients, knowing that we are embarking on a relationship that's completely uniquely, sacred and authentic to us.
My approach is rooted in existential and psychodynamic therapy, which means we won't simply focus on symptoms—we'll explore the experiences, relationships, patterns, and beliefs that have shaped who you are. Together, we'll create a safe, judgment-free space where you can better understand yourself, work through what is holding you back, and move toward a life that feels more authentic and meaningful.
First session
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what brought you to therapy. I want you to feel comfortable speaking openly without fear of judgment or feeling like you need to have everything figured out. We'll talk about what you're experiencing, what you hope to gain from therapy, and begin identifying some of the patterns or experiences that may be contributing to where you are today. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, understood, and hopeful about the work ahead.
Strengths
I bring curiosity, authenticity, humor, and genuine human connection into my work. I've spent more than a decade working across a wide range of clinical settings, which has taught me that effective therapy isn't about applying the same technique to every person—it's about understanding the individual sitting across from me. I have extensive experience with addiction, dual diagnosis, anxiety, depression, and complex life challenges, and my work in addiction counseling has also been featured in a graduate-level counseling textbook. Above all, I strive to create a relationship where you feel comfortable being completely yourself, while also being challenged when meaningful growth requires it.
Ideal clients
I work best with adults who are ready to better understand themselves and create meaningful change in their lives. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship difficulties, unresolved trauma, or major life transitions. I also enjoy working with professionals and high-functioning individuals who may appear successful on the outside but internally feel disconnected, unfulfilled, or uncertain about their direction. My ideal client is curious about themselves and willing to explore not only what they are struggling with, but why—and what a more authentic and meaningful life might look like for them.
Treatment methods
Psychodynamic
I use a psychodynamic approach to help clients understand how past experiences, relationships, and unconscious patterns continue to influence the way they think, feel, and relate to others today. My work also incorporates existential principles, exploring themes of identity, freedom, responsibility, meaning, self-worth, and the choices we make in shaping our lives. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, I help clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves, recognize patterns that may be keeping them stuck, and move toward a more authentic and meaningful way of living.
