I enjoy gardening, the beach and also skiing. My website that explains more is katebowenlmhc.weebly.com if you want to check it out! I look forward to meeting you soon!

First session

On our first session I usually take more notes and might ask more questions while getting to know you. I also feel like it is your time and I want to meet you where you are at so you feel like it was time well spent!

Strengths

I try to use different approaches and methods with different people to meet clients where they are at. I don't assume one method will work for everyone. I am a big believer that different things will work for different people and it is not a one size fits all.

Ideal clients

I can provide a safe environment that is free from judgement. I tend to suggest strategies or coping skills that may be effective for your personal situation. It is my goal for you to feel better (improved mood, decrease symptoms of anxiety/depression) and reach those personal goals. I really enjoy working with teens, adults, couples and families. I have been working in the field since 1999.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT in therapy to set goals, discuss current problems, complete "homework" exercises to build coping skills. CBT allows you to process your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Also to identify negative thinking and challenging you to reframe these thought patterns leading to improved mood and new behaviors.

Couples Counseling

I work as an impartial mediator, coach and therapist to help improve communication and decrease conflict.

Gottman method

I have completed Level I of the Gottman method training. This method focuses on building connection, regulating conflict, and using "stress reducing conversations" that encourage emotional validation.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use DBT in therapy to set goals, discuss current problems, complete "homework" exercises to build coping skills. I encourage clients to use a DBT workbook to help increase coping skills. DBT is designed to help people with intense emotions, to reduce self destructive behaviors and to improve relationships.

Mind-body approach

I find that mood can improve when a person is able to implement a mind-body approach. Some examples include: meditation, yoga, acupuncture, guided imagery, and deep-breathing exercises.
