Hello, I am a licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Maryland and New York. I received Master Degree in 2018. I have worked with various individuals, including depression, anxiety, bipolar, addiction, substance abuse, and communication challenges. All these individuals have one thing in common: they want to be heard and have a safe place to speak their truth. I find that it is an honor to be able to listen to and collaborate with clients on their sensitive issues.

With all of the challenges that life can throw at us, it is easy to feel overwhelmed or helpless. Life satisfaction and happiness might seem like distant goals with no clear path forward to reach them. You may find that you are spending more and more time stuck in your own head, perseverating on your struggles and acting as your own harshest critic. To me, therapy rooted in compassion and empathy can be a fantastic tool for navigating these challenges and discovering meaning and self-empowerment. Having begun my career at a community mental health clinic, I have experience working with a diverse population of adult clients from many socioeconomic, racial, and cultural backgrounds and with a variety of presenting concerns and challenges. I specialize in treatment for anxiety, depression, and trauma as well as struggles with substance use and always adapt my therapeutic techniques to the individual needs of my clients. My philosophy is that therapy is a partnership between client and therapist to help foster healthy coping skills, personal growth, self-compassion, and understanding of oneself.

Do you ever feel like nobody is listening to you? or trying to help you make sense of your struggle? Do you feel that what you are going through makes you feel alone like nobody gets you? Been there...I get it...and I feel you. I will be the first to admit that I don't understand everything but I have enough life experience, to relate to you on some level. I try my best to build our work together on trust, integrity, understanding, and honesty. I work best with individuals who are willing to do the work, the hard work so that you can create an empowered life and improve your quality of life. I focus on issues that include: anxiety, alcohol use/abuse, marijuana use/abuse, depression, psychosis (first episode), life transitioning, and trauma. I work with ages 14 and older, veterans, men and women. I offer group counseling services for substance abuse (alcohol & marijuana), and specialty services for immigrants such as forensic mental health evaluations and adulting courses.

First I want to acknowledge your effort to get help for your issues. You may be struggling with relationships, depression from a loss, anxiety about your future, memories of a terrible incident in the past, or an abusive childhood. Whatever it is that is getting in the way of your current life and your goals for the future, when you have the courage to work through these seemingly impossible challenges, you will find hope and your life will get better. I'm here to walk with you on this creative journey, your path to healing and wholeness. As an expressive arts therapist with degrees in Pastoral Counseling and Early Childhood/Special Education, I bring my experience working with children and families, counseling those with mental health challenges who combat racism and poverty, and accompanying people struggling with recovery or a trauma history. In addition to verbal therapy, I use the expressive arts and psychodrama techniques to dig more deeply into troublesome issues with an underlying strengths-based approach.

A client comes in to see her therapist and is 10 minutes late. She sits down and apologizes for her tardiness, to which the therapist replies that no apologies are necessary as clients are only late for their first session. The vignette illustrates something that I see in clients repeatedly who come into my office. Many should have come in at least a year or two ago but for some reason think that the problems they experience are still manageable. While I admire the will of many of those who still manage life like the proverbial Dutch Boy and the dike, I believe that asking for help is a strength of its own. In therapy, I come from the perspective of someone that had to receive help at various times in my life. I've also had a meandering career path, meaning that I've worked in several fields and industries prior to becoming a therapist and have been able to do ground-level empathizing with people who work in blue and white-collar professions.

Hi there, my name is Darrius. Do you feel pulled in a million directions, unable to fit it all in? Are you struggling to keep up with your relationships, work and health? Are you feeling overwhelmed or just plain stuck in life? I help people restructure their damaged relationships. Relationships are more than romantic interactions between two people. Relationships as I define it can be with anyone or anything that you exchange energy with. The biggest relationship that we struggle to understand and grow with is the person staring at us in the mirror each morning. No matter what relationship your struggling with ( work, home, family, yourself.) I'm here to help. Seeking therapy can feel scary but you're making the right choice. You deserve a safe space to heal and grow. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion and evidence-based techniques so you can overcome the hangups and habits holding you back. Let's work together!
