I am a seasoned and dedicated therapist, holding a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and I am based in California. With 13 years of experience in this field, my practice is driven by a profound commitment to assisting individuals in their journey toward self-discovery and personal growth. My therapeutic approach centers around meeting my clients right where they are in their lives, offering them a safe and non-judgmental space to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I am deeply passionate about nurturing self-understanding, self-compassion, and self-love, guiding individuals to embrace these qualities as they navigate life's challenges. In my practice, I emphasize the importance of moving away from self-criticism and self-blame, recognizing these patterns as hindrances to personal well-being. Instead, I work collaboratively with my clients to foster self-acceptance and self-compassion, empowering them to build healthier relationships with themselves and others. My ultimate goal as a therapist is to help individuals discover their inner strengths, enhance their self-awareness, and develop the tools they need to lead more fulfilling and contented lives. Welcome to Dr. Mitchell's safe and brave space! I began my career working with "at-risk children and youth" and families in 1995. Many struggling with substance abuse, poverty, child abuse, and neglect. While maintaining the person in the environment perspective throughout my career, I supported antiracist policies, ideas, and actions. This is why I continue to practice in a manner that promotes self-awareness and self-reflectiveness for myself and with clients in a healing journey to self-care and resilience. I believe it is important to use narrative therapy and other therapies with the theory of intersectionality to remain person-centered. My practice is also focused on treating trauma and/or race-based stress that has shaped a person’s inner world; so the use of Feminist therapy, Queer Theory, and Liberation Psychology are introduced as appropriate. I welcome everyone who values peace to come and try with me.

Do you feel like you're always overthinking? Unable to make effective decisions in life? Consistently wondering whether you are enough or have done enough? If so, you are not alone. If we were all more honest with ourselves, we could admit that once in a while, or every day we have some of these thoughts. My goal in therapy is to make sure you feel heard, feel seen, and have the space and time to express what you're experiencing, all the while processing, and gaining new perspectives about how you want to show up for yourself. I help individuals understand their stuck points and cultivate healing and hope through perspective shifting, acceptance, and deeper questioning of one's own experience. If this speaks to you, then I hope I hear from you. I believe we can do wonderful work together. This is a space for compassion, validation, accountability, and change. If you're ready, don't wait! I look forward to meeting and working with you!

Hi there, I primarily work in substance use recovery (abstinence and harm reduction) and trauma recovery. I also have specialized training in treating anxiety, depression, and sleep issues/insomnia. My treatment orientation is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy concepts, however the foundation of my early training was Psychodynamic. I have been trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, STAIR (Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation), and Seeking Safety for trauma treatment. When treating anxiety, I take a CBT, or exposure approach with skill-building. For depression I utilize CBT concepts, or behavioral activation with skill-building. For sleep issues, I work with the CBT for insomnia treatment model. These are just a few examples of treatment approaches I utilize. I am relational focused, which to me means finding a plan that works best for you, practicing cultural humility and not trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. I look forward to working with you.

Thank you for reviewing my profile. I am originally a midwest farm gal with a little city pazzaz having lived in the Chicagoland area for many years. Although I am now a CA resident, my midwest roots are grounding to me. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in California. I provide counseling services via telehealth and on Tuesday's have in-person sessions available to those who live locally. On days I am off and not working, I enjoy reading, riding the motorcyle with my husband, spending time with my adult kids, traveling, taking walks with our pet dog, Buddy, and working out at the gym. I am divorced, have lost a pet I dearly cherished, lost my father, and work hard to get my PhD! I am a huge advocate of self-care because that is what helped me keep taking one step forward on difficult days. Take courage and know that I, too, have not been without struggles, but encourage you to know there is hope everyday!
