Welcome to Dr. Mitchell's safe and brave space! I began my career working with "at-risk children and youth" and families in 1995. Many struggling with substance abuse, poverty, child abuse, and neglect. While maintaining the person in the environment perspective throughout my career, I supported antiracist policies, ideas, and actions. This is why I continue to practice in a manner that promotes self-awareness and self-reflectiveness for myself and with clients in a healing journey to self-care and resilience. I believe it is important to use narrative therapy and other therapies with the theory of intersectionality to remain person-centered. My practice is also focused on treating trauma and/or race-based stress that has shaped a person’s inner world; so the use of Feminist therapy, Queer Theory, and Liberation Psychology are introduced as appropriate. I welcome everyone who values peace to come and try with me.

Are you a Christian woman in your 40s-50s experiencing emotional distress after a hard breakup or Narcissistic abuse? Are you looking for support but feeling judged by your faith community? Do you have self-condemning thoughts and doubt your value and worth, but WANT to have positive feelings toward yourself? Do you feel emotionally overconnected to another person and want your sense of independence back? Then YOU are the kind of client I enjoy working with! Together, we can evaluate and dispute negative thoughts and beliefs, resolve spiritual crises, break trauma bonds, and find acceptance for realities unlikely to change. I specialize in treating self-esteem, codependency, and divorce. I love working with clients to heal from trauma, resolve anger, and find acceptance for unrealized expectations. Middle-aged Christian women who have experienced physical, emotional, verbal or narcissistic abuse are my primary focus. I use spiritually informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify abuse, set boundaries, heal from trauma, resolve anger, and find acceptance for unrealized expectations. I provide practical, therapeutic, and spiritual interventions. Potential clients should know that I provide a safe, goal-oriented environment to work toward wholeness without judgment or criticism. Together we consider biblical truths and find ways to apply them to mental health. We will identify, evaluate, and dispute thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that conflict with God's grace, truth, and love. of focus include fear, anger, guilt, grief, shame, stress, forgiveness, self-esteem, relationship loss, divorce and hopelessness. I open sessions with prayer. Successful treatment completion looks like you have met your therapy goals and are routinely staying inside your window of tolerance (the optimal level of arousal for emotions, memories, thoughts, experiences, and people) that you can endure without destabilizing. Visit my website, www.growingingrace.life to view video podcasts. I'm happy to answer questions through email before scheduling an appointment. I am completely virtual in my practice and meet with clients via distance counseling only. I provide handouts, prayers, and worksheets for therapy homework between sessions to reinforce skills acquired in sessions.

Hello, I am Jerry Phillips, a licensed mental health therapist. Welcome to our Grow platform. You can read more about my background, education, experience and therapy approach below. I'm so thankful you reached out for help. My personal and business motto has been for many years, "Helping People Help Themselves". This is also my goal with each client. I recognize that most people do not need to be fixed. Rather they need to be heard and understood. By listening and attempting to understand, I am often able to help guide people to real solutions for their personal issues. It will be a privilege to assist you exploring the concerns you discuss. Background: I have two Master degrees; Master of Divinity (M-Div) and Master of Counseling Psychology (MS). I am a U.S. Navy Retired Chaplain, having served 29 years. While on active duty as a Navy Chaplain, I attended a one year school for Pastoral Counseling. Immediately following this, at my next duty station, I began a second masters degree program for Counseling Psychology. This helped me become a much better Chaplain. I also received extensive training at the US Navy's Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Center and then conducted alcohol and drug counseling with military members. Three years after this degree program I was licensed in the State of Florida (my home) as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). After retiring from the US Navy, I established the Upper Room Counseling Center, serving people in the Central Florida area. During this time I specialized in Anxiety disorders, Grief counseling and Addictions. I have had the opportunity to help many people mature as individuals and recover from their addictions. Today I continue helping people through Grow Counseling Telehealth. To access our live, face to face session, you will need either a computer, tablet or smartphone with a working camera and audio. This type of live video streaming works best with a strong, high speed internet connection. It is also recommended that you use Google Chrome as your web browser. Please be sure your device settings are set to "Allow" camera and microphone use while using Google Chrome. If you need to contact me directly, please feel free to do so. I can be reached at: 334-322-5750 or UpperRoomCC@gmail.com
