Hello, my name is Kevin Villalta and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) working statewide with clients via telehealth in California. I am a bilingual, English and Spanish-speaking, clinician with over 5 years of experience specializing in providing individual therapy treatment and services to adults and young adults (ages 18-22) in various community mental health settings. I take a holistic and strengths-based approach to therapy and am passionate about using evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Psychodynamic Therapy to work with clients that are motivated to address their mental health needs.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, you can expect to spend time mainly talking about you and how you have been feeling recently. I want to be able to ask you questions that will give us a sense of how to best move forward and establish a goal for treatment. The first session is also an opportunity to review some initial logistical information and answer any questions you may have. In subsequent sessions, I hope to work together and track progress using your goal to guide us in your therapy journey.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel my greatest strengths as a provider include prioritizing my clients’ individual needs while having a calm, empathetic, and collaborative communication style. I believe that it is important to create an accommodating space that is non-judgmental for my clients. I want to empower my clients in developing a more positive mindset that helps them discover their own best answers.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on exploring the relationship between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to positively impact our overall mental health. I use CBT in my practice to help clients identify and make changes to their own patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior to shift towards the positive outcomes they seek.

Grief Therapy

Grief can take shape in many forms and expressions when a loss is confronted. I work with my clients in Grief Therapy to gain clarity on their own set of unique grief reactions and guide them to engage various tools and practices to process their bereavement or loss.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Culturally Sensitive Therapy is a treatment approach where each client's cultural background, beliefs, and identities are recognized in order to utilize cultural strengths to address oppression or discrimination they may have faced. I prioritize cultural humility and sensitivity in treatment to foster open communication and healing by respectfully discussing my clients’ lived experiences around oppression or providing support to navigate identity-based issues they may be facing (BIPOC allied, LGBTQ+ allied).

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Therapy centers on practicing awareness and focus on the present moment through various techniques of meditation and introspection that has been proven to improve our physical and emotional wellness. I implement these techniques with clients who are open to integrating these practices as a means toward increasing self-regulation and skill in stress management.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic Therapy is a method where clients explore childhood or developmental experiences and how they connect to their current mindset or behaviors. I have utilized this treatment method when clients are ready to look to their past and discover unconscious patterns, motivations, and emotional insights that will help them decide on new ways to resolve and approach current thoughts and feelings.
