I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Rutgers University and a Master’s Degree from Florida International University in Social Work. I moved into a successful private practice over seven years ago.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Remember there is nothing wrong with you- except that you are human and suffer pain. We look forward to hearing from you. The answers and healing you seek are already inside of you, individually or within your group. I can help you bring it forth, understand it, and embrace it.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy proven to help reduce symptoms related to post-traumatic stress disorder, traumas, depression, anxiety, phobias, addictions, and other conditions. For marriages and relationships in crisis, emotionally focused therapy, along with techniques from the Gottman Method, has shown to be the most effective in re-creating healthy and long-term bonds. I am certified in EMDR and emotionally-focused therapy and have had extensive training in the Gottman Method. Remember there is nothing wrong with you- except that you are human and suffer pain. We look forward to hearing from you. The answers and healing you seek are already inside of you, individually or within your group. I can help you bring it forth, understand it, and embrace it.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. In many studies, CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective as, or more effective than, other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications. I have close to 30 years experience in utilizing CBT techniques and incorporating it into other techniques to assist my clients in overcoming challenges and roadblocks.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy proven to help reduce symptoms related to post traumatic stress disorder, traumas, depression, anxiety, phobias, addictions, and other conditions. EDMR has a direct effect on the way the brain processes information, releasing emotional experiences that are trapped in the nervous system. Our trained therapist works with the individual to recall a disturbing thought, feeling or memory and turns that same disturbing memory into a more resolved, peaceful feeling. Negative and maladaptive beliefs are similarly replaced with positive and beneficial beliefs. I am certified in EMDR. Scientific research and clinicians have established EMDR as an effective, rapid, and safe way to treat many conditions

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a form of short-term therapy that aims to improve couple relationships by rekindling the physical and emotional bond that can get sacrificed to disappointment in a partner and alienation from them, a common dynamic in distressed couples. If there is a motto for EFT, it is: “Hold me tight.” Drawing on research supporting attachment theory, the therapy regards the security of partner connection as the best lever for change in a dysfunctional relationship and a necessary source of both couple and individual growth. Love, in short, is transformative. Restoration of the emotional ties enables partners to be physically and psychologically open and responsive to each other so that they can construct a mutually supportive and satisfying relationship in the moment and for the future. EFT has been clinically shown to be the most effective intervention in even severely strained marital relationships. I am certified in EFT and have used it effectively to assist my clients in restoring those marital bonds they have been so desperately attempting to rekindle.

Gottman method

The Gottman Method for Healthy Relationships is a form of couples-based therapy and education that derives from the relationship research of psychologist John Gottman. For more than 40 years, Gottman identified and tested the elements of an enduring relationship. Gottman and his wife, psychologist Julie Schwartz Gottman, created the clinical treatment framework known as the Gottman Method and launched the Gottman Institute, a center for training, research, and education. One of the major tenets of the Gottman Method is that couples require five times more positive interactions than negative, as negative emotions, like defensiveness and contempt, hurt a relationship more than positive ones heal. As a result, the therapy focuses on developing the skills and understanding necessary for partners to maintain fondness and admiration, turn toward each other to get their needs met, and manage conflict. It also focuses on how couples can react and repair relations when they do hurt each other. I have extensive training in the Gottman method and integrateit in both couples and family therapy.

Family Therapy

Family can be the best source of love and support, but also can bring severe pain and conflict. You never expected your family to resemble a 1950’s sitcom family, which never really existed anyway, yet you so wish that your family relationships could be stronger and past pain finally addressed. Whether it’s parent-child, siblings, or other family relationships, we can help you explore and rebuild the strained family bonds. I have had extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), short-term, research-based approach to treating relationship problems with couples and families. EFT has shown to be the most effective intervention in re-creating healthy, long-term bonds and in helping families recover from emotional wounds.
