I am passionate about joining women in their journey to growth, healing and moving forward through life’s transitions in creative and life-affirming ways. If you are experiencing the loss of a relationship, ambivalence about your career and the direction of your life or struggling with past negative life events that impact you, I can help provide a safe and supportive space to help guide you through the places where you feel stuck. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Hello and welcome! I am Tara Murphy, LPC, LADC, EMDR certified therapist. I have been working in behavioral health for 25 years. My practice motto is "I won't have you try anything I haven't done myself."

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and what you hope to get out of it. In addition, I gather a personal history to finally arrive at a initial plan for treatment. By the end of the first session you should be able to identify targets for treatment along with methods that will be used.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider is pulling from all of my life experiences to help you and the use of humor. From the performing and visual arts to treatment modalities, I pull from many areas to give you the skills you need to enjoy a happier life.

My treatment methods

Relational

I will help you build your sense of self as well as patience and trust with others. We will look at relationship patterns based on past experiences that contribute to current life dissatisfaction and find solutions to these repeated interactions

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps people change unhelpful ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. It's based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and actions are connected. I will help you identify cognitive distortions (blocking beliefs) that contribute to feelings of anxiety and depression.

EMDR

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of psychotherapy that uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, to help people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. I will help you create new skills to manage the effects of trauma while also deactivating memories that may be triggering flashbacks, nightmares, or re-experiencing traumatic events.
