Hi my name is Alicia Coffman (Licensed Professional Counselor), and you’ll find me to be a positive, personable, and open minded therapist who can offer you a safe place to learn and grow. Finding a therapist that you can connect with and can have a healthy and therapeutic rapport with is half the battle. The search can be exhausting and overwhelming at times, especially when you’re just trying to find someone who will get you. Letting yourself be vulnerable with someone you don’t know can be scary, and I commend you for taking the first step in finding someone. Life can often be difficult and hard to navigate, but I believe we all have the strength and resilience to grow and change; and live a more fulfilling life. Therapy is a challenging, yet warm process that entails self reflection and honest conversation. It’s important for me to create a space for you to feel comfortable and open. My goals are to help you reach your goals in a supportive, empathetic, and compassionate space. I meet people where they are, and walk alongside them to where they want to be. I am passionate about helping clients find meaning and purpose in their everyday lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first intake counseling session, you can expect me to create a welcoming and supportive environment where you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts, feelings, and concerns. I'll start by asking some questions to get to know you better, such as your reasons for seeking therapy, your personal history, and any specific goals you have in mind. I'll also discuss the counseling process with you, including confidentiality and the boundaries of our therapeutic relationship. This is a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about therapy and to express any preferences or concerns you have about the process. Throughout the session, I'll listen attentively and empathetically to your story, offering validation and support as needed. Together, we'll begin to explore the issues you're facing and start to identify potential areas for growth and change. By the end of the session, my hope is that you'll feel heard, understood, and hopeful about the prospect of working together to address your concerns and achieve your goals. We'll also discuss next steps and schedule future sessions as needed.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I'm skilled at understanding and empathizing with clients' experiences, emotions, and perspectives. This empathy forms the foundation of a strong therapeutic relationship and helps clients feel understood and supported. I also excel at active listening, paying close attention to what clients say and providing feedback that demonstrates understanding and validation. This helps clients feel heard and valued. I have strong analytical skills that enable me to be able to assess clients' situations, identify underlying issues, and collaboratively develop solutions and coping strategies. Overall I bring a combination of empathy, strong listening skills, positive communication abilities, professionalism, problem-solving capabilities, and creativity to my work, enabling clients to effectively navigate life's challenges and achieve their goals.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT places an emphasis on helping individuals learn to be their own therapists. Through exercises in the session as well as “homework” exercises outside of sessions, clients are helped to develop coping skills, whereby they can learn to change their own thinking, problematic emotions, and behavior.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is a type of psychotherapy that emphasizes acceptance to deal with negative thoughts, feelings, symptoms, or circumstances. ACT therapy encourages increased commitment to healthy, constructive activities that uphold clients values or goals.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a counseling approach designed to help clients find the motivation to make a positive behavior change.

Strength-Based

The strength-based approach is centered around the idea that the client is the actor or agent of change. The approach is highly dependent on how the individual processes their thoughts and emotions. It allows for open communication, encouraging individuals to identify value and assemble their strengths and capacities.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

SFBT is a short-term goal-focused evidence-based therapeutic approach, which incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, and which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems. In the most basic sense, SFBT is a hope friendly, positive emotion eliciting, future-oriented vehicle for formulating, motivating, achieving, and sustaining desired behavioral change.
