What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session at Beyond the Root Counseling and Consulting, PLLC, we prioritize creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere where clients feel safe and supported. Here's what a typical first session might entail: Introduction and Welcome. I introduce myself and express my gratitude for them choosing to embark on this journey with us. Establishing Rapport and Building Trust: taking time to establish rapport with the client. Encouraging open communication and assure them that their confidentiality and privacy are respected and protected. Exploring Expectations and Goals: We engage in a discussion about the client's expectations for therapy and what they hope to achieve. I encourage them to share their goals, concerns, and any specific challenges they may be facing. Together, we clarify their reasons for seeking therapy and outline their desired outcomes. Assessment and Information Gathering: I conduct an initial assessment to gather relevant information about the client's background, personal history, current circumstances, and areas of concern. This may involve asking questions about their mental health, relationships, lifestyle, and any previous experiences with therapy. Psychoeducation: Provide psychoeducation about our holistic approach to therapy, explaining the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, and how we integrate various therapeutic modalities to support overall well-being. I also discuss the importance of self-care, stress management, and other wellness-promoting strategies. Collaborative Treatment Planning: Based on the information gathered and the client's goals, we collaboratively develop a personalized treatment plan. Addressing Immediate Needs: acute distress or urgent issues, prioritizing those needs and providing immediate support and resources as necessary. Closure and Next Steps: reviewing what was discussed and summarize key points. Inviting the client to reflect on their experience and ask any questions they may have. We discuss scheduling future sessions and any additional steps they may want to take between sessions to support their progress.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is used in my practice to help clients understand their current behavior patterns, develop greater self-awareness and find more effective ways to manage stress, depression and anxiety. It can also improve communication in relationships; help people to identify goals and values that will guide them through life; and ultimately facilitate a deeper sense of acceptance, peace and fulfillment.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is used in my practice to help clients to make use of their own experiences and understanding in order to challenge negative thinking patterns and behavior. I work with clients to identify the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that contribute to difficulties thus allowing them to develop insight into how these components interact. By teaching my clients more helpful ways of responding to life events they can learn to better manage difficult emotions such as anxiety or depression, improve social skills, and develop more effective problem-solving strategies. Ultimately, CBT can help my clients make meaningful and lasting changes in their lives.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution Focused Brief Treatment is used in my practice to help clients create goals and develop plans to reach those goals. It is a short-term, goal-oriented approach that focuses on the here and now rather than exploring the past. The client's strengths are identified as resources for identifying solutions and progress towards their goals. I believe that clients have within themselves, the answers they need for managing change in their lives.

EMDR

EMDR is a groundbreaking psychotherapy that is used in the treatment of trauma. This treatment is used to help people recover from painful trauma and distressing life experiences. When we activate the natural healing process within our brain, EMDR allows for those difficult experience to properly heal. The use of bi-lateral stimulation is used to activate the brain and release painful experiences that could be "confined" within the brain. Once those painful experiences are unlocked, it allows the left and right hemispheres of the brain to communicate with one another. When we use the bi-lateral stimulation and the identified distressing experiences, those experiences are then desensitized. In other words, made less painful. That distressing experience is then reprocessed, which can allow for a brand-new meaning to be placed on the experience. EMDR helps heal those with any type of trauma, there is absolutely no limit or requirements to who the treatment can help. This can include, but is not limited to, PTSD, anxiety, depression, panic disorders, and physical, emotion, or sexual abuse. This psychotherapy treatment has been proven to be the most effective healing method with PTSD. For more information on EMDR, visit www.emdr.com or www.emdria.org
