Greetings! I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Pennsylvania; and a PSYPACT-certified clinician, authorized to provide telepsychology services in 39 states. I am a skilled practitioner who has provided services in outpatient, forensic, residential, and research settings for over 20 years. Currently, I provide clinical psychology services to adolescent and adult populations (16+ years old) experiencing trauma-related challenges, depression, anxiety, work/life balance issues, adjustment difficulties, interpersonal challenges, and cultural/diversity related concerns.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, I tend to spend much of the time asking questions to gain insight into your specific challenges. This information helps me to develop a tailored treatment plan to guide follow-up sessions. This is also a time for patients to ask their own questions (e.g., my background, therapy approach, or clinical impression); and to discuss their personal goals for therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having provided therapy services in diverse settings with diverse populations for more than a decade, I have a wealth of experience to pull from when selecting treatment modalities and techniques. My flexibility to adapting my approach to the needs of the patient has proven invaluable.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

In her work, Dr. Snooks embraces an integration of Psychodynamic and Systems therapies. She seeks to understand the impact of the client’s unconscious wishes and drives; identify the coping strategies that they have available to them; and help them to understand both the interpersonal impact of their symptoms, and systemic contributions to the development and worsening of their presenting problems. From there, client and therapist are able to embark on a journey of positive change that includes learning new skills for effective coping and improving the client’s quality of life.

Trauma Informed Care

Dr. Snooks has dedicated over 10 years in the field to researching the impact of trauma, and treating affected individuals in outpatient, residential, forensic, and military settings. Care typically involves an assessment of coping skills already utilized by the patient; work to build additional skills for emotion regulation and cognitive coping; and exposure therapy for symptom reduction.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Dr. Snooks utilizes ACT techniques to help patients increase their psychological flexibility. This is a mindfulness-based approach that teaches individuals how to be more fully present in the moment; accept their emotions as a part of the human condition; observe their thoughts without judgment; examine their values; and engage in committed action in the service of those chosen values.

Multicultural

Dr. Snooks approaches therapy with a multicultural lens, cognizant of the fact that every person is an individual that has been shaped to some degree by their own cultural backdrop (e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, spiritual path, etc.). She emphasizes the role of the client as the expert in their world; and therapy as a collaboration. Often this requires flexibility in her use of techniques. Dr. Snooks has experience and training in the use of Psychodynamic, Systems, Exposure, and Acceptance and Commitment therapies.
