Is this you? In many ways you are highly successful but deep down you feel something is not quite right. You have a sense that experiences in your childhood are impacting your relationships, the way you parent, and the way you see yourself. Even more, recent changes in your life -- your relationship, job, or COVID-19 pandemic -- seem harder to adjust to than you expected. You find yourself getting frustrated more easily. It’s been harder to keep up with all your responsibilities, and you can literally feel the tension in your body. You are ready to look inward to gain healing insights, get unstuck and regain control over your life. My name is Kimberley Small, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida. With degrees in Neuroscience & Behavior from Columbia University and Clinical Social Work from Florida Atlantic University, I utilize brain-based, body-based, and insight-oriented interventions to help you unlock the power of your story and promote healing in just the way you need it. Together we will clarify what’s most affecting you, Explore stress management techniques, and “Go back and Get” that which was lost due to trauma and childhood wounds. "The person that heals themselves heals their parents, their children, and their children's children". This is something indigenous peoples have understood for centuries and that modern science is now learning to be true too. You deserve to unlock generations of healing. Schedule a consult with me to discuss how. Keep Going... Your Healing is insight!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, we'll discuss the therapeutic process, structure, policies, and procedures. We will also explore your experiences surrounding the presenting problem(s). I use an integrative relational approach to treatment; we will think about your goals and the best ways to reach them. I primarily work with adults wanting to address the root causes of their suffering and challenges. After building internal and external resources for coping, we will identify target memories and make decisions about reprocessing in a way that feels courageous and safe within the context of your window of tolerance. We'll decide together on "growth work" to engage in between sessions. Progress will be reviewed and goals adjusted as needed until it is time to graduate or otherwise end services.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize a holistic approach to healing that incorporates mind, body, spirit and community aspects of care. To do this I use a combination of brain-based and body-based tools including Cognitive Coping, Emotional regulation techniques, Mindfulness and Visualization. I am trained in EMDR for trauma processing as well as CPP (Child Parent Psychotherapy), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Anti-racist Psychotherapy techniques.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My foundational mental health training is in infant mental health. Working with children 0-6 and their caregivers has given me a fundamental understanding of how difficulties in childhood can affect a person's thinking, emotions, and behaviors. When children don't have age-appropriate explanations for these things, they tend to blame themselves, which can trigger a lifetime of challenges that are disconnected from their root cause. Today, I work primarily with adults and parents to explore these root causes and integrate adaptive memories, which are traumatic memories that lead to suffering.
