Hi. I'm Steve. Do you ever wonder why, no matter how many different things you've tried, you fall back into old behaviors that hurt you and/or those you love? Do you wonder why your emotions take over and leave you feeling incapable or overwhelmed? Do your emotions get in the way of effectively communicating when it matters the most? We all face questions like this, and the most fulfilling part of my work is helping people like you find answers to those questions. I don’t have any “one-size-fits-all” solutions, but together we will work to identify what drives your responses and what you can do to make lasting changes. We will work to help you anticipate and prevent issues before they appear, to feel emotional intensity rising and calm it down, and to exit stressful situations before doing or saying something you’ll regret. I don’t believe that our worst moments define us. I DO believe that each of us is capable of overcoming past struggles and finding a new path. I look forward to working with you as you try to find yours.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In ou8r first session, we'll spend some time getting to know each other and start setting up a plan to address your goals for therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My work experience before I became a therapist was as a probation officer. In that job and in my initial years as a therapist, I worked with men, women, and adolescents who were court-ordered to attend treatment. Many of those clients did not want to be in therapy, and to help them make changes, I had to connect with them without judgment. Shame can block a path to change and growth, and I work hard to make everyone I work with feel valued, accepted, and capable of being the person they want to be. I also believe my past work makes it easier for me to work with anyone, no matter how "bad" they may feel about their past behaviors. Emotional dysregulation, sexual issues, relationship struggles, communication deficits, negative sense of self; whatever it is, we can work on it.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT helps see the connection between what we're thinking and what we do. We will spend time working on how our thoughts and self-talk contribute to emotional distress and ways you can change your thoughts to help you manage more effectively.
