Sometimes the people in our lives just don’t get it. I have worked with those managing anxiety, depression, and family and relationship challenges. I also have special experience working with older adults, artists and creatives, career challenges and burnout, and people living with HIV or other health conditions. Our lives don't often offer the non-judgmental space to work through trauma, heartache, and overwhelming stress. Talking with a therapist is different from talking with a friend or family member because you are free of obligations and responsibility. It is all about you, and I will ask helpful questions, point out connections and patterns, and simply give you space to put yourself first and talk through your experiences. If you have been to therapy before, it may help to know I have the experience and training to work with those who have received a mild, moderate, or severe mental health diagnosis, but know that it is only one piece of the puzzle. Knowledge is power. I believe in psychoeduction - teaching you as much as you like about psychology and how our brains operate.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I may propose some intake forms or assessments in the future but I prefer not to send them ahead of time. Setting up the first appointment can be a big step, and we will come up with a plan together when we meet. Expect that I will meet you where you are. If you’re nervous, I will put your mind at ease. If you know what you want to work on, we will dive right in.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I have learned to see clients in context, and do not wonder “what is wrong with you,” but rather “what happened to you.” This approach is sometimes called person-centered and trauma-informed. I focus on building a genuine relationship, providing unconditional positive regard and empathy. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as well as narrative therapy and mindfulness. In some cases, clients have had something specific to work on, which responded to a behavioral approach and motivational interviewing. Whatever the approach, it develops as we work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

If you are feeling nervous or trying therapy for the first time, I can help to put you at ease and go at your pace. If you have been in therapy before, we will start with a conversation about things that didn’t work for you so we can take a different path.
