Hello. I am Tammy. I recently retired from school counseling. As a counselor in public schools, I have experience with children of ages 5-12. Although I have worked with children in the schools for 29 years and they are near and dear to my heart, I welcome a chance to also be able to counsel adults in private practice. Throughout the years I have noticed that the counselor and client relationship of trust and support favorably contributes to success. I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy to steer our collaboration on goals and tasks that will facilitate growth and reaching those goals. I look forward to working together!!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session we will first get to know each other, talk about your goals in counseling, and begin planning the steps to attain those goals. There will be discussion to learn to self recognize and challenge thought patterns that affect beliefs and thoughts. As we progress through sessions we will test different interventions to find the best individual fit and effectiveness toward goal attainment.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

We will explore thought patterns and beliefs and the consequent feelings that then develop about different situations. Interventions from Cognitive Behavior Therapy will be utilized most often as well as mindfulness activities. Play Therapy will be utilized for children.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I enjoy being able to collaborate closely with clients during goal setting and planning the steps to meet those goals. The more that goals and tasks are tailor made to suit a specific person, the more likely we can expect success in goal attainment. In addition to adding that personal element to goal setting, I have also had extensive experience with coping skills development whether that is anger management, adjusting to divorce or separation, grief coping skills, dealing with anxiety, or becoming aware of and controlling impulsive behaviors.
