Hi! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker deeply committed to the mental health and empowerment of black women. In my practice, I blend proven, effective strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and psychodynamic techniques. These methods help you address and overcome personal challenges, ranging from deep-seated trauma to the stresses of everyday life. My goal is to provide you with the tools to cultivate resilience and confidence, empowering you to manage life’s ups and downs. Together, we will work towards healing, growth, and a life that feels enriched and fulfilling. Let’s embark on this journey to reclaim your strength and joy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, you can expect a warm and welcoming space where your voice is heard and your experiences are valued. This initial meeting is all about getting to know each other. I'll invite you to share what brings you to therapy, your hopes for what you wish to achieve, and any challenges you're currently facing. This is a time for you to set the pace and for us to start building a trusting relationship. You can also expect to discuss how therapy works, confidentiality, and how we can tailor our sessions to best suit your needs. There will be plenty of time for you to ask any questions you might have. This first session is foundational, setting the stage for our journey towards your empowerment and healing. You’ll leave knowing that you’ve taken a significant step forward in caring for your mental health in a supportive and understanding environment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a provider, my greatest strengths lie in my deep commitment to culturally competent care, extensive training in diverse therapeutic techniques, and personal dedication to the empowerment of black women. My unique approach is shaped by my background in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and psychodynamic therapy, which I integrate to tailor interventions that are both effective and respectful of each client's individual experiences. What sets me apart is my focus on understanding the intersectional challenges faced by black women. My professional and academic experiences have equipped me with insights into the specific stressors and traumas you may encounter due to race, gender, and societal expectations. This understanding informs every aspect of my practice, from the initial assessment to the development of personalized treatment plans. I am passionate about creating a therapeutic space that feels safe and validating, where you can explore your feelings, challenges, and aspirations without judgment. My role is not only to facilitate healing but also to empower you to reclaim your narrative and thrive. This dual focus on healing and empowerment is central to my practice and to supporting your journey towards a healthier, more fulfilled life.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), leveraging its proven strategies to foster meaningful change in my clients' lives. My expertise in CBT is grounded in a thorough understanding of its principles, which guides me in customizing therapeutic interventions to meet the individual needs of each client. In my practice, I utilize CBT to assist clients in recognizing and altering detrimental cognitive distortions, thereby cultivating healthier and more adaptive thought patterns. This approach is particularly effective in addressing a spectrum of psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, and stress. I prioritize a collaborative approach in therapy, focusing on goal-setting and practical skill development. This empowers my clients to actively engage in their recovery, ensuring they have the tools to manage and overcome challenges. My sessions are structured to provide a supportive space where clients can safely explore their thoughts and behaviors, facilitating sustainable personal growth and well-being.

EMDR

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful psychotherapy technique that has been extremely effective in helping individuals process and recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. My application of EMDR is rooted in a deep commitment to evidence-based practices and a profound understanding of trauma’s impact on mental health. In my therapeutic approach, I utilize EMDR to facilitate the brain’s natural healing processes by helping clients reprocess traumatic memories in a safe and controlled environment. This treatment is conducted through guided eye movements, which are believed to lessen the emotional impact of these memories. My role is to create a trusting therapeutic space where clients can explore their trauma-related memories without becoming overwhelmed by them. This method has proven particularly beneficial for clients dealing with PTSD, anxiety disorders, and other stress-related conditions. I focus on ensuring that each client feels empowered and equipped with the strategies to regain control over their emotional state and lead a fulfilling life. My approach is always tailored to the individual’s unique history and needs, ensuring that the therapeutic journey is both compassionate and conducive to recovery.

Psychodynamic

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I bring a deep understanding of psychodynamic therapy to my clinical practice, providing clients with insights into the unconscious patterns and past experiences that shape their current behaviors and emotions. My approach is rooted in the belief that self-awareness is a critical pathway to change and healing. In employing psychodynamic therapy, I focus on exploring the client’s emotional world, including unresolved conflicts and past relational dynamics that continue to influence their present life. This exploration is conducted in a supportive and empathetic therapeutic environment, where I encourage clients to delve into their inner experiences, helping them uncover hidden patterns and deep-seated feelings that are impacting their mental health. This therapeutic method is particularly effective for those who are dealing with complex emotional issues, personality disorders, or longstanding psychological distress. By fostering a profound and nuanced understanding of themselves, my clients are better equipped to address their difficulties and work towards lasting personal growth. The process is collaborative and dynamic, with an emphasis on therapeutic alliance as the cornerstone of effective treatment.
