Hello! I'm Alyssa Norbeck and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Illinois. I understand that it can feel vulnerable and intimidating to begin therapy, but I'm passionate about making therapy a safe space where you feel heard and understood. My therapeutic style is empathetic, nonjudgemental, and individualized. I draw upon a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities (such as CBT, ACT, ERP, and EMDR) to help you reach your goals. I received my Master's in Social Work from USC. I've worked with a variety of age groups presenting with a range of clinical issues in both individual and group settings, including private practice, mental health and substance use intensive outpatient programs (IOP), crisis management and stabilization, Employee Assistance Programs, and in skilled nursing facilities/long term care. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing with my dog, gardening, crafting, and kayaking.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I understand that the first session is often nerve-wracking for people, especially if you have no prior experience with therapy. I strive to provide a safe space where you feel comfortable and understood. In the first session, I'll ask you some questions about the challenges you've been facing and your treatment goals so we can create an individualized plan to guide future sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength is my ability to collaborate with you. You are the expert of your own life, and I desire to come alongside you to help you reach your goals and address the challenges you are facing. I understand that progress is not linear, and change is difficult. I can help you face your challenges and lean on your strengths to move forward towards progress and the person you want to be.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Utilizing ACT treatment techniques, I help clients develop mindfulness skills and determine their values. By knowing our values, we can determine which behaviors are most effective in moving us towards our values and the person we want to be, rather than away from that person.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT examines our thoughts and behaviors, and their influence on our emotions. I utilize an eclectic treatment approach, but I always find it helpful to incorporate elements of CBT with clients.

EMDR

I am EMDR trained. EMDR utilizes the natural healing process of the brain to help people process difficult life experiences. EMDR is an evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD, anxiety, phobias, OCD, addictions, and grief.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

Exposure Response Prevention is an evidence-based treatment for those with anxiety and OCD.

Christian Counseling

My personal faith and spiritual journey allow me to provide Christian faith-based counseling to clients. Please note, I am proud to serve clients of ALL faiths and respect all beliefs and only offer faith-based counseling upon request.
