Hi, there! My name is Karen Brochue, (pronounced bro-SHOE), and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have 23 years of experience, and I look forward to working with you as the unique individual that you are. My passion is to serve a diverse community, and I am committed to treating you with compassion and respect. I promise to be open and honest with you, and I commit to working just as hard as you do. I have worked with clients with a variety of concerns including: Neurodiversity, LGBTQIA challenges, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, ADHD, Trauma, individuals facing medical challenges, anger management, eating and exercise disorders, and parenting issues. My clients have had excellent, sometimes lifesaving results. I work with Adults and Teens. My approach combines Family Systems Theory, Solution-Focused Counseling, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. My desire is to help people find their way in the world in a happier, healthier way. I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey and I hope to get to know you soon. I’d love to help. -Karen

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

My goal is to help you to define the problems that are plaguing you, and to help you to make, set, and achieve goals that will work toward your better functioning self. Many people get overwhelmed by their issues and just kind of drift along through life without living their best life. I will help by giving you a safe place to explore what is troubling you, and to work with you to use me as a mooring so that you can experience a smoother way of approaching things...things that you and I have prepared you for ahead of time. It takes time to make lasting change. Every session is a new session and we build upon what we did before to help solidify your gains.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

With that in mind I will begin our sessions by gathering background information that will show me where your "nest" is, and who supports you when things are going poorly. Or well. (-: My overall approach is that of Family Systems Theory. This means that I gather family of origin information from you, as well as the outer systems that you engage in such as school, work, church, other organizations that you may be part of in your larger environment. This might sound like a lot to "download", but it goes quickly and is immensely helpful. If you imagine a target with you in the center and your family as the next outer ring, that will give you an idea of how I approach things. What happens in one of your rings. spreads ripples back and forth impacting the various rings.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am accepting, caring, and hard-working. I recognize that every one of the people that I work with are individuals with unique differences and needs. I have three specialties that I work with a lot. The first is LGBTQ+ needs for teens and adults. There is a lot of diversity in this group of people and an array of challenges that they face. My systems theory approach really helps here because there is a lot taking place relationally within this group. The second is working with Autism in both teens and adults. I like to help people to applaud their unique strengths, and to work on the weaknesses that they share with me. I seek to help in any way that I am shown to be needed. Like all of my work, I am client led. Lastly, are various relationships.
